Well I already posed the question but havent got a clear answer. I want to paint my bezel and my rear chome license plate surround estate green( color of my car) but my auto body guy told me that if I did that it would eventually peel and come off, since it was originally chrome..... Isnt it plastic with a chrome cover? some one suggested me buying an lse grill but i dont want to get a new bezel and that doesnt solve the rear chrome surround....what do you guys think? anyone done this already please chime in.

Painting Plastic Chrome

I would really use a different painter!! He really does not have a clue!!!

The key to this is very simple. Like ANY paint project the proper preparation is a must. If you just start spraying paint then yes it will be a POS and fall off.

So, first remove both items from the car. Yes, painters are VERY lazy and will not want to do this. Second just sand the chrome off and get to the base plastic. Now use the PROPER materials to paint plastic. The paint will be no more likely to fail than any other plastic painted surface. Like your outside mirrors.

I would remove both pieces and do the sanding myself. It's pretty easy and you will save money and get a better job by far!!!

Remove them from the car, sand them, spray with self-etching primer, spray the base coat, then spray the clear coat. Piece of cake!
