why is my abs light on?

what would cause this??? would needing new rotors or pads set this off?

sometime when i step on the brake it usses abs for no reason

Sounds like you may have a sensor failing and reading incorrectly. Have you looked under the car to make sure they're all connected and no wiring is damaged? If it's not obvious, you need to take it to a shop and have it diagnosed properly.
