And how do they install? Is it easy? How does the stock block heater work? Currently, my car does not have one at all.

I didn't know they were options on the Mark VIII. Try Summit.

I dont think you will find an OEM one anywhere, you might, but they are so rare.

Yup. Plug her in for easy/safer starts in the winter. I think the Canadian Marks had a few installed. Someone at one point had a production figure on the number installed. It was less then 50 a year I think.

My folks had one on an old Mustang. It was installed in a freeze plug on the block - it was nice in the winter!

I have heard of ones you replace the dipstick with , but I am afraid it might cook the oil.

this is actually my first car without one. coincidentally. also the first car i imported from the US - well, first modern car.

Your best bet would to call lincoln, who knows they might have a better version that will fit our cars. Just a thought the worst thing they could say is no.

Look for wrecked older Diesel Cadillacs. My '79 Eldorado had a block heater. You just plugged it in for a few hours before starting. I used it once when I went skiing in Taos. It seemed to work fine.:)

They are still available from the dealer... I inquired into last week when I thought it was leaking but it ended up being something else...
They were about $80 CDN...

block heater

Most parts houses and Farm equipment supplers have block heaters and better yet I think are what I call a tank heater. It mounts in a heater hose down below the lowest part of the block. The heater circulates the warm water with the warm water rising and cool water going to the bottom. Big Truck also use this type of system.
I used them in Alaska and if your car ran FAIR it would normally start.
