i want to paint the center of my dash silver like in the gen 2's (center vents, radio, temp controls and ashtray), so my question is what is the best paint to use for this and will i need primer, clear coat etc....

I would primer with etching primer (make sure it says that it will adhere to plastics. If not, just get adhesion promoter), duplicolor metal specks silver, then clear that.

It will look like my grille..

How close is it to the factory color?

Etching primer is for bare metal, not plastic!

Hit the panels with ~400 grit sand paper, prime, color coat, decide if you want to wet sand to 800 or 1200 grit, color coat, clear coat.

That's the only spray can primer that works on plastics.. sandable doesn't stick to plastic.. not to sound cocky but look at there website.. I put it on my bumper, grille, and rear surround. Just be sure to put enough to cover and not too much excess..

Idk about the factory color match. I just wanted to get the lse looking grille for a cheap price..

Yessir.. that's what I used.. its a metallic silver.. I believe the gen 2s is just a gloss silver.. never been in one, just by pictures that's what it looks like.. also, the silver says quick drying and its not.. takes like 30 min to dry. Just a heads up before you start..
