I'm looking onto getting my first LS. It's an 01 LS8 with 90k on it. Fully loaded and everything works. Just had new tires and complete new front end from a lincoln dealership. What do you guys think it's worth? Is there anything I should look out for? Thanks in advance, Jason
 
Dont let the dealer fool you into paying for those new tires, also you might want to be concerned about why the whole front end was replaced (accident?). Try to shop around for one that has fewer miles, its not hard to find an 01 or 02 thats been babied by some old lady. Test drive it, try to find the obvious out first. Check for leaks, replaced parts, ect.

Do a search for common problems for that year V8, you should find more info than you ever wanted, just remember people typically post when they have a problem so dont be scared away.
 
Well this car is owned by a couple in there 70's. They are the only owners of it. When I said the whole front end replaced I ment they had the Ball joints/ updated sway bar & links/ struts & mounts/ tie rods/ etc... replaced at the dealer with in the last few months.

Just wondering what I should offer since I will be traveling about 90 mins one way to look and hopefully buy it. So what do you think I should offer them?
 
I have a 2000 LS w/ 109,000 that has the V-8 in it. If I were to sell it I would probably ask around $4,500.

As babbster said, look all over the car. Bring the car up to 40-45 and see if there is any hesitation/shaking (coils). Also try to find out a service history and get a printout (if they took it to a dealership for work). A dealership has the service history of a vehicle.

Try to find out if coils were changed, spark plugs, ball joints, etc.

I would get a idea of what the are asking before you drive 90 minutes away. And then if you like that price bring that amount but try to see what you could hustle down after you get there.
 
well they are asking 7300 for it. I'm new to the LS's ad not sure if this is a fair price for the car? I will try and get them to come down some, like I said just trying to get ideas on what to offer them.

For reference I bought an 02 w/ 92k on it for $6100 about 2 months ago. Last week another 02 sold here in MT for $4500, the car lots around here are hurting, make them a low ball offer. You can always walk away, I've seen a few "lot managers" making anything to get it off the lot deals.

Dude, trust me on this... they are trying to rape you!!!

Get a NADA blue book printout on it, Kelly Blue Book would work too. Then start to take the car apart (figuratively)... it's not going to be perfect; for every imperfection you can possibly find (knicks in the paint, brakes warn, scuffed wheels... you name it)... you pull more and more off the blue book price.

In perfect condition I'd say that car is worth no more than $6000; but that's just a guess, you'd have to check the blue book. Anyway, $7300 is certainly WAY too high.
 
Naterw21 Thanks!!!! Thats what I was looking for. I will call them tomorrow and see how flexable tey are on the price. I was sorda thinking it was high but the other ones I have looked at were around 5-5500 and were trashed!! I', hopeing to get it for under 6k
 
offer 5k....thats too many miles to offer more than that .... although its a dealer so 5k most likely wont cut it....either way its likely that you're gonna be throwing a few grand into it soon
 
This car is not at a dealer!!!! I'm not sure why everyone thinks that???? What will I be putting a couple grand into???
 
hey,

i bought my 02ls with 66k in march. it was 10 thousand for it. just fyi for another reference point. also check out carmax online, see if they have any ls's in your area and see what they are selling for. that will give you a dealer perspective.
 
wow i guess i just got ripped off badly, just got a 2000 LS with 92K miles (replaced engine) for 6.1k :( it does have brand new tires, clutch, flywheel and a whole tune up since the engine was replaced... but still dang, its a v6 with a manual tho

I don't know about "ripped off badly", the manual transmissions are hard to find, the replaced engine, clutch, etc should be a plus.

The used car market is overloaded and to move them out the car dealers have been dropping prices.

OT - but a local bank just offered up a nice low mile 2006 F250 pwerstroke crewcab shortbox for $8100 just to get rid of it - damn nice truck well under book for around here.

with the first gen LS's you will have to spend money to maintain it and it's not cheap. the high mileage also makes the LS prone to problems such as coils, vcg, and many others. all points have been discussed on other threads. they are asking too much and do what Nate suggested you do. gather up another 4-5k and get yourself a second gen 03+
