Let's talk DynaMat -

I know that the LS has a fair amount of soundproofing in the door panels right out of the factory, but what else have you guys done with with Dynamat or something similar in your kickin' audio installs?

I may be putting a new sub install in the trunk before the end of the year, and was wondering if I should Dynamat the trunk. If so, should I do the sides and trunk lid or just the bottom?

How about in the cabin? Has anyone added to the doors or underneath the carpet?

Curious LS Owner wants to know!

i have the entire removable panel inside the doors(the panel window regulator is bolted to) including the speaker adapter and most of the outer door skin(the inside of the skin) covered in dynamat extreme along with the entire A and B pillars and two coats on the licens plate, working on the C pillars and the roof, this winter, and a lot of the trunk is getting done over winter while it is taken apart(trunk lid, sides and some of the bottom) the car is damn near dead quiet on the highway, and with the stereo turned way up and the doors and windows shut you can barely hear anything, the roof flexes quite a bit along with the trunk lid itself, but there isnt a single rattle

I'm working on buying a bulk pack of the extreme right now. My trunk rattles TERRIBLY when I have it at about 75% volume, with something bass heavy.

How much can I expect that to cover, 1LoudLS? not just the trunk, right?

And did you put anything between the trunk and license plate surround?

2 words, Loud - Hokey Pete!

I know I'm not going to go anywhere near what you are, but I should probably look into doing the doors, trunk, and perhaps underneath the carpet (which will probably not be a pleasant job).

how big of a bulk pack are we talking about pete? a "trunk kit" is 20 cubic feet and will do the entire lid and most of the sides and back, i put one in a 300c last week and it probably covered 60% of the entire trunk (lid, sides, back, and floor) but i know they sell larger packages than that.

a huge problem with these cars is that there are only two screw holes for the license plate, i was still getting some rattle after i put it on my plate so i went to autozone and got a plate mounting adapter that i screwed into the back of the surround and it gave me bottom screw holes that with four screws in the plate fixed it,

you will really need to listen to where the rattle is comming from to really get rid of it, some of it might be comming from your tire iron and jack under the spare tire, tey taking it out and see if that helps also press on the license plate and see how much is comming from there, i was also getting some from the heat shield above the mufflers

rattle is just one of those things that you need to attack little by little until you find and fix every spot that rattles, find one spot fix it and move on to the next one.

i dont think that under the floor is too important Todd, because there is quite a good amount of factory stuff and it does a pretty good job, that is probably the last place you will need to go

36 sf of extreme. It's the lid and surround that's the worst.

I have 1 12" sub in a vented enclosure, and I believe 900w going to it continuous.

This is the sub:

I have 1 15" Memphis sub and I used two of the trunk kits and I still feel I need more. I haven't done anything but the trunk and spare tire well. I would still like to do the underside of the rear deck and some more on the sides. I agree with 1LOUDLS about how doing the floor is pointless because the factory carpet already has a thick layer of sound dampening material so work on it in sections like LOUD suggested.

ive had a few different setups in mine (few 12s and 10s) and the only place ive ever had a rattling problem with is right behind my rear tires on the sides of the back bumpers. other then that my LS seems to be very solid. currently not running anything though, got a little expensive after blowing through a few different setups in a months span.
