Ok, so I'm chillen with my friend .. for some reason when ever he puts the car on park and lets go of the break, he pulls the E Break. He's got an automatic btw ..

So it came to my attention, he always does that, so i asked him why he does that all the time.

He goes, usually when you put your car in park, it seems to go foward a little while in park, i said yeah .. he goes, that screws up the tranny, so i was like nah shut up, where you here that from he's like a lot of people and its true ..

Seriously, first time i ever heard that, now is that true?

I never use my e-brake, and, I've never heard of that either.

I imagine it does put some wear on the tranny but it's probably not that bad.
But I do use the ebrake when parking on even a slight incline...

You can tow the car for 25 miles I believe without a driveshaft disconnect. I seriously doubt that moving forward a bit over the lifetime of the car adds up anywhere near that.

The only time you need to use the ebrake when parking is when you are parked on a hill. Even in that case, point the tires towards the curb on a decline and away from the curb on an incline. The point being that if for some reason, both brakes fail, the car rolls into the curb and stops.

You should engage the emergency brake before putting in park when on an incline so the car doesn’t roll and put pressure on the park clog, it can make it difficult to shift out of park; nothing like having your foot out the door and rocking the car to get it out of park. This can hold true with manual shift also.

i always use my hand brake, but thats because i park on a little hill, and when i dont use it, the shifter gets stuck and its hard to put it on reverse

I used to talk to a girl with a volkswagen and her mechanic told her the same thing about putting the car in park then setting the ebrake.... I couldnt beleive my ears. I thought it was complete rubbish. The same mechanic told her the car needed to come in for maintenance, he changed the oil and what not, and the bill he gave her said "headlight flush: 25.00"

I couldnt beleive it when she showed it to me. I said "you never thought to question that???" She goes "there IS fluid in my lights..." and she popped the hood and pointed to the headlight level bubble.
