so i made a couple threads a little bit ago about how my rear passenger door wouldnt open and about how i got it open eventually. so anyway i ordered a new door latch and just put it in on monday, worked fine i thought, tired it a couple of times before i shut the door to make sure it unlocked then closed the door and tried it too. worked like new. but then i went to open it last night and WOW! its not opening anymore. im not F*cking with it anymore and will be taking into the local dealer and have them fix it. but im getting to the point to were i cant enjoy driving this car anymore. i will be getting a new truck in about two weeks and and seriously considering trading in the LS and not have to deal with it anymore. love the car but am starting not to love owning one, but i will always stare when i pass one. we'll see how the dealership goes on friday.

Every car has it's problems. But don't blame the LS if you can't fix it properly.

It's possible that the new part failed, but it is more likely that the linkage to it was not connected properly. I agree, you can't blame the car for that.

child locks were the first thing i checked when it happened for the first time, i thought maybe it was stuck half way between either way but it wasnt, checked it this morning and it was fine too. the LS has more then its share of problems but ive never heard of anybody having to many problems with doors except for the handles them self. but i dont under stand this. i take the car in on friday to the dealer.

probably a good idea. Or just take it apart and check again to make sure everything is reinstalled properly.

Yea i know everycar has its problems but i have never been on a car forum were 85% of the thread topics are help with something that has gone wrong or broken or malfunctioned. So yea i will blame the LS and the engineers behind it. I rarely do my own laborious work on cars because i simply dont have the patience to do it, but with this it was 3 bolts and a plug and a clip. hardly challenging. so i doubt it was anything i did, but who knows.

sounds to me like your lock actuator is not unlocking the door properly. Over time they tend to get weaker and weaker. If it were my car Id replace the lock actuator. You already replaced the latch the only other part in the door is the actuator.

You might also want to double check to make sure the rod didnt pop off the clip, or the clip isnt left open for the handle rod and lock rod.

The latch and the actuator are one single assembly. He replaced it.

The door wont open? Will the lock open and close? I dont know if it could also affect it but my lock would close anymore last week. i fixed it, there was a part that was held by a pin and came lose and jammed everything up in there. It wouldn't hurt to check. Take the actuator off the door and take it apart completely. Check it with your hand to see if its working properly, maybe something is prevent it fromreturn to orignal open position and its jammed ike that. I even had to get down to the little motor and take it out cause it was jammed.

The demographic that buys these cars normally don't turn their own wrenches. That's why you maybe see a higher percentage (I seriously doubt it's 85%) of people posting with issues. Rarely do you see people post up when everything is going fine, but as soon as something goes wrong, they come onto a forum and blast everything about the car.

We are all prone to human error, and it's very possible you missed something simple.

FYI. My buddy had the same problem on his 2000 and it turned out to be the cable assembly inside. Apparently the cable has a tendency to stretch and then it will not allow the handle to open the door. Hope this helps. Good luck!
