So stereo casualty number 3 lincoln ls alternator.. First 2 were amplifiers. I'm starting to think the internal regulator was bumpin up voltage too high @ times in turn fryn amps... Was drivn this morning when I seen 15.9 volt spike on digital volt meter before 11.9v and the infamous check charging system. Checked all power runs to assure it wasn't a lose conection somewhere. Install of new alternator was pretty easy other then the fact that it only comes out and goes back in one way.. Flip twist turn n so forth.. Plan is to check out mechman for a high output replacment. Question is does anyone kno of a part number for the 3 wire harness that plugs into alt. Mine still clips in and out. But part of the plastic portion cracked.. Would like to adress this asap.

I have sent you a link below to a thread I started awhile back. It is about installing high-ouput alternators in the LS's PCM controlled charging system. The PCM appears to be what is controlling the voltage output of the alternator. I have tried several HO alternators but none with the OEM 'regulators' installed. I talked to Ohio Generator and Wrangler Power Systems they say the problem I am having is the regulators used on DB Electrical and PowerMax alternators are not OEM spec and will not work correctly. I have read in another forum that a Mechman alternator has been used in an LS with no problem and there is a link to that forum in the thread below IIRC. I have not purchased any of the alternators that are listed in the thread but I plan to soon.

I installed a 1.5 farrad cap in my audio system and that has helped alot but not resolved anything.
