Just found why my car smells so bad I have a leak somewhere on the passenger side of my car I pulled up the carpet which was wet and there was water under it I do have a sunroof but was wondering if there was other common places that leak in that area I just want to make sure I fix the leak before I replace the carpet any help would be great

I don't know if the gen 1 is the same but on the gen 2 it has a fresh air intake in the wiper cowl area on the pass side. As the sealant dries out it allows water to enter the cabin.
Sorry, can't remember what year yours is.

In the mean time while you're waiting to get the
problem fixed, you can prevent any more mold from
growing throughout the interior by putting bag or
a pail of DampRid in the car.

.

Is that what your talking about where it meets the windshield or is it under that

There is foam attached under the cowl cover. When I fixed mine I put a new piece where the old one was and also on the lip below the windshield before it dips down into the actual cowl. I did that because, like yours, the cover didn't sit flush att. It's fixed now but thats what I did, no leaks.

Actually remove the cowl, the black thing with the "vents". When you do you will see what can be described as an oval bowel. Around the base there is a glue/sealant used where is interfaces. This goes bad, a lot. Re-seal with some silicone sealant. Lots of it. And make sure you get ALL around it!

You will have to pull the wipers. They are easy to get off, but you need to pull up straight and even, dont pull on the arm at all.

Also, you will want to pull your carpet out completely for a while. I had a situation where water got into the Mark. Nearly a year later it was still in there! The car was sitting in a garage while a new engine went in so it never got wet. But the material used to soundproof held the water in.

I ran a hose over that area and that's definitely where it's leaking I also saw water coming down the drivers side

Yup, thats the evil area. You can probably use various products, but I used silicone. Just make sure the area is very, very clean before applying anything.

That'll do it. I used black rtv silicone/sealant (permatex) on mine. While you're in there you mine as well replace or add a strip of weatherstripping on the cowl cover or the area in the pictured above.

Well I sealed it up and ordered a new carpet so hopefully my car won't smell like mold anymore I'm so glad I finally fixed that leak it's been like than since I bought it
