Ok, I just got back into a LS a couple of weeks ago. It is a great car, but the person that I purchased the car from pulled out the factory radio and installed a cheap Kenwood cd player. I do not know how it was installed, I havent had the time yet to look into it. ( looking around for a black stock headunit to install back into it) Anyway, when you start the car it chimes for maybe 1 minute at most. Usually about every hour, it will start to chime again. It is 4 or 5 sets of 4 chimes. During this time, not is showing up on the display, car does not act funny one little bit, no codes or engine lights, nothing at all.

I want to see if anyone though that the cd player could cause this to happen. Everything works great with the car, but also the cruise control doesnt work, I am sure that it is tied into the electronics of the radio, that is the reason for it, but I am stunned about the chiming.
Thanks
Marco

the radio should have nothing to do with the chime, however since your cruse controls are not working, you could have a problem with your clock spring, which could effect the airbag, and if the airbag is affected, then the system would chime to alert you. it could be chiming out a code that you could use to look up what the problem is

You are hearing the warning chime that means that your SRS light on the dash has burned out and you have an SRS fault. Have you noticed that the SRS light does not come on briefly (or at all) when you start the car? It is supposed to. The chimes are a warning that the warning light is not working. Also, be aware that your airbags and seatbelt retractors are disabled.

SRS ( Airbags?)

The seatbelt chime is different. It does chime or more like a ding if I do not have the seat belts on. I know that is working.

On the lights, I will look again to see if all the lights are working. I do know for a fact that when the car is running, it runs great with no problems and there are no lights that are coming on. (that is not saying that they were pulled out of maybe burnt out) I will take a look at this this evening and see if this may be a problem

Thanks!!!

I think you mis-understood me a little bit. I didn't say anything about the seatbelt chime. What I said is that in a crash, your airbags won't deploy, and your explosive seatbelt retractors/tensioners won't fire.

Also, I think you'll find that you are getting five sets of five chimes each.

Yes, that is exactly what I am getting 5 sets of 5 chimes each. It is the same everytime. I looked when I started the car and there is no SRS light that is coming on.

Also, I just noticed to see if anything was working on the steering wheel, and the horn isnt even working. I did a carfax and everything was clean on the car, but that doesnt mean anything in my book either. That just tells me that if it was in an accident, it was with an insurance company. It is hard to tell, I have messed with paint and body, and I did question the paint, it is the white pearl. Very very nice paint. The front bumper was repainted he said to cover up chips, but nothing else was. You can barly tell the bumper was repainted, but everything else you can tell is still original. Not to mention the headlights and the fogs were also replaced (he said since they were fogging up bad with condensation and were faded)

I dont think that the air bags went off, but I wonder if something from the "accident" if there was one, could be doing this.

I didnt question it when I was buying it, cause the car is very clean and he had all ford records from the purchase date. Older man in his 60's, it was his wifes. Clean vin#, clean carfax, I honesty though that he just wanted to keep the car looking new.

What do you think I should do next, take to Ford?
Thanks
MArco

if nothing is working on the steering wheel, it makes me think that it the clockspring going bad (common issue) the previous owner probably just got tired of seeing the light and pulled the bulb out to sell it,

If your not comfortable working on it yourself, then you will nee to take it in to have it fixed. If you want to check it out yourself, I would start by pulling the cluster out and checking the bulb to see if it is just burned out or if it has been removed.
