Wanted to share this. Possibly the strangest thing I've ever received.

So today, I went out and got my mail and I noticed that I had received an actual letter. A personal letter is rare these days, its mostly all bills and junk.
Anyway this is a hand written letter from a fellow I wont identify that works at the local Ford Dealership, it reads...


"Dear Chris

I need to purchase 4 2006 Lincoln LS's from local individuals. We are completely depleted of these vehicles and so are local auctions.
We have a list of customers waiting for us to locate these vehicles. As a manager, I may have the ability to offer you more for your vehicle.
Please call me by July 6th at the number below."



It came with his business card and is on a Ford "summer sales event" letterhead. I've already checked out the particular dealerships webpage and the individual is indeed listed as the general sales manager, I initially thought it was a scam so I checked first. So now it just seems to be an advertising ploy to get me to by a new car.

The only odd thing is that I did not buy this LS from them. I bought it privately from the owner of a Chrysler dealership on the other side of the state, and the fact that the letter states that they "are out of these vehicles" well no :q:q:q:q ford, you stopped making them.

So I have pretty much accepted that this is just an advertisement to possibly get a new car out of me, however if this is just halfway legit and they want to give me something substantial for my car, I wouldn't be opposed to some new offerings you know what I mean :cool:

Just figured I would share.
 
I get those all the time. (Dealer name) needs my car as they are low on inventory. I guess they believe I haven't thought far enough as to what to do after I no longer have my car! I'll bet they would be more than happy to sell me a new car!

I assumed as much, strange though. I have never received one of these before, a google search revealed that this is apparently commonplace.
 
Once I rolled up into a dealer in the suburbs of chi. All shined up, angel eyes and 19" chromes. This guy immediately runs out of the showroom before I could even get out of my car and goes damn that's a nice car, how many miles does it have. I said 33,000. He goes ouch! I have many customers that would be interested in that car. I'm like dude chill I'm not selling it. Haha. And once I also got a letter from the local ford. Which was stupid because I'm pretty sure everyone at the local ford knows that if they ever came across a low mileage ls or LSE that I'm there buyer. So I don't know why they think I'd sell Clearly I see this car in my future
 
I get those alot LOL, apparently 2003 Lincoln Navigators are in very high demand now :bowrofl:
 
Thats so funny that you mention this. I bumped into a buddy of mine at dinner and he said that he got one of those letters. I am not making this up.... They said that they were low on inventory (get this 2008 priuses lol) and that they could give him premium money for his car. He said that they offered him 14K and he aparently paid 24K like 18 months ago.
 
They probably pull information from the DMV for their ad campaign, and through the magic of computers they insert your name and the car's name into the appropriate fields. I get these letters from time to time as well.
 
i get the exact same letter three or four times a year, and whats best is each time i get three copies, one from the dealer i bought my car from, another from the dealer that does any work i need, and last from a third dealer that did collision work on my last LS. all different ford dealers, all different names, all in the same week.

i do also however get a hand written anniversary/birthday card from my salesman each year during the week that i bought my car.

This happened to me a few months back. Soon as I pulled up and got out of the car a guy came running out of the showroom wanting to know if I would sell for his waiting list. "We are always looking for good used car inventory and sell a lot of these"... really? A car that was orphaned by Ford 6 years ago? I just tell them "Give me your card and I'll think about it" cause it's the easiest way to make them go away.
 
Funny you should mention this... I got one just last week. It appeared to be hand written, but upon closer examination, it was not. I noted the perfect reproduction of the word "you" in multiple instances. No person can reproduce the text with that level of accuracy. And if it had been a handwritten letter, there would have been depressions on the paper where the pen wrote the words. This one was completely smooth, as if it had been printed (because it was). The letter also indicated they could "reduce my payments" when I have none. If they really wanted to pay me to take a new car, I'm game. But I doubt that is the case. And finally, in the corner, there was a company mark from some ad company the dealer uses to send these things out. I almost called the "manager who could get me higher value for my 2004 Lincoln LS" and tell him I'm not doing business with them ever again (I've had bad experience with their service). But alas, I just tossed it in the trash with the week's circulars.
 
I have received letters like that from GM, promising me original MSRP for trade-in if I get in there by the end of the month. It is just another marketing ploy.
 
The job of any business, regardless of what they do, is to separate someone from their money. :)
 
I got one the other day that was made to look like a print out of an email chain where two guys were discussing my now gone SRT8. These guys will try anything to get you into their dealership.
