I am looking to "amplify" my 2000 LS V8 exhaust sound, but do not have a lot of duckets to throw at the idea. I have read about people performing a "muffler delete" but it is illegal in Rhode Island to eliminate the muffler(s) on your vehicle. (I read their DMV Manual.) And I know i could do it but don't feel like dealing with the "fuzz" if they feel like picking on me.

I was thinking about replacing the stock mufflers with small glass-pack mufflers (like cherry bombs) to give a louder rumble and sound output, so that I at least have mufflers on the car to adhere to the law.

I am not very picky in the sound other than I don't want the snapping sound that typically occurs with muffler deletes/straight pipe setups. I want a decent rumble and volume-level.

I have tossed around the idea of the Cat-Back setups, but I don't have $500-$800 to throw at the idea.

If I can do the project for under $200, that would be ideal, if possible.

I don't need to touch the cats, but maybe just simply replace the existing stock mufflers with something louder?

Any suggestions?

Search.

Mufflers are discussed near everyday.

<rant>
I have done some searching and am still on the fence. I am asking opinions, not where to find the information, since I am well aware of how to search. What is the point of having forums if people aren't willing to answer questions other than with "search"?

A part of what forums is all about is to communicate with others and maybe even form a friendship and interact with people that share a common interest. Your comment basically tells me you have no interest in what I am asking and could care less about who I am and helping out a fellow LS owner.

That's like going to a store and asking someone for their opinion on mufflers and them telling me to read the box and walking away, rather than telling me what they think of the sound or application of certain types of mufflers.

IMHO, posting "search" or telling someone to look around is a waste of time and not helpful in the least. Better off not posting anything at all and let me keep "searching".

Thanks

Like i said....mufflers have been discussed to death on here.

You can go on youtube and listen to 20 different combinations of mufflers then come on here and ask for part numbers.

It is helpful because we get tired of discussing the same thing over and over and over.

Any muffler besides stock will give good. Most have maganflow 1125's. You can do as little as chop the stock mufflers on and weld just those on or cut everything out from the cats back and replace everything with xpipe, pipes and mufflers.

Nobody here is paid for their services....gotta do a bit on your part to find the info you need.

Delete the resonators? Shouldnt cost more than $75 at a shop

If I were to do that, would it be better to use a X-pipe to replace the resonators rather than simple straight pipes?
I would assume that simply deleting the resonators and using straight pipe would give me more of a spitty/pingy sound of which I don't want.

Go on youtube like i said so you can hear and compare.

I have maganflows with resonator delete and xpipe and love the sound. And you get an even better sound by dropping the stock
intake system and going with a cone filter.

check out this thread there is some discusion on what people have done, I put in flowmaster super 44s and got rid of the resonaters, cots me for both mufflers and pipe to rplace the resonators about 200-220 (i forget) but i like the sound and it is really loud.

Like black said there is alot of discusion previos to this, but if you want cheap there is a company called flowtech I hear they sould like flowmasters but are lik 30 bucks a piece and have a life time warrenty.

alot of people here don't like the flowmasters but i love them you can hear them in my house from about 4 blocks away.

I was thinking about changing the stock air intake/filter system to that cone filter setup (cold air induction?), i can get a decent setup on ebay for around $75.

I think for the 2000 v8 he would want the 15710 no?

I should be getting my kkm intake delivered today, more then $75 but I don't care a bit :)

I posted a short video under my thread "New mufflers" a couple days ago. When sitting and idling, you don't hear much but under accelleration, I'm pretty happy with the results

There's also the related threads down there | . Every thread will also have other related threads. \/

I replaced my stock mufflers with flowmaster 40 series mufflers and it sounds great. Not too loud, but loud enough to know its a V8. No popping or crackling throughout the rpm range. Got my mufflers for $100 and had a shop weld them in for another $50 so thats $150 total in my project.
