More flamebait I'm sure, but I'll take my chances . . . I'm having a navigation system installed on the LS on Wednesday. When I called to schedule an appointment the guy I spoke with mentioned it can be difficult to find a source for the VSS. I did a bunch of searching around on here and could find no definitive answers, so my question is this: When connecting a navigation system to the LS, where is my VSS? I have a 2002 Sport with Alpine six-disc CD changer if it makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Vehicle Speed Sensor? Ummmmm last time I checked a navigation system uses GPS to calculate speed, I've never owned one but I'm almost 100% positive.

it is used for dead reckoning navigation. A lot of the OEM/in dash kits use this method.

I think the sensor they would be looking for might be the abs since it measures wheel speed. Do not quote me though. I would buy a paperback shop manual off of ebay and take it in when they do the car. It just might save you a return trip and would come in handy down the road.

The only poster Im aware of who was successful, tapped into one of the rear ABS wires. I forget which one, but it apparently isnt too easy to get to. Somewhere above the rear axle/near the gas tank.

I gave up. On my Avic-D3, Ive been running without the VSS hooked up/just going off of the sats, and my navigation has been close to dead on.

If Im not mistaken, the VSS helps compensate for slope...ie if you are traviling up or down steep hills a LOT, the VSS ensures better accuracy
