So valentines morning I hear someone beating on my front door, look outside and it was the cops. So I'm thinking oh great, go outside my door and see this. Cop said some old man was drunk ran over my mailbox and threw it in reverse and smashed my car between his truck and street sign. He hit and ran, didn't have insurance nor a license. Thank god for 160.00 dollars a month in insurance! They came out and told me my car was totaled and are giving me 10 grand for a car I payed 7,700 for. :D On the search for a new LS as I type this.

nice, go get yourself a clean 06

who do you insure with?

Haha shred I actually seen that right before I posted this. But are you saying 10,000 is bad? But yeah I'm searching on CL and not really seeing much. A few 02's and a few newer but all have way to many miles for me. Mine had 68,000 and I'd like to get something around that region.

lol no :q:q:q:q mean awesome.

10 grand is seriously stellar, that could get you an 06 if you shop around

edit: oh god I didnt realize the filter blocked what I said which was "t i t s" ahaha

Yeah I looked at it and was like hmmmm thinkin you said "s h i t". But yeah anybody else have any other suggestions on finding a car other than CL?

Thanks guys, need to get on the ball because they are coming to get my car Tuesday and that's my only transportation. Yes....I'm still driving it.

Scab whatever parts you can off of it if the assessor already totalled it out!

They hire an independent wrecking company to come pick the vehicle up

Already got the tires, and all the little piddly stuff I figure I may new on the new one.

No they weren't but I'm sure that the towing company will be returning the car to safe auto. But how would you guys feel about buying a car that has been wrecked? Not this one but another one that I'm looking at

I stay away from previously wrecked cars. It's different if you wreck one and have your your repair shop that you know and trust fix it. But when you buy a car that was wrecked before you don't know who fixed it and what kind of job they did.

What he said. There are enough LS' out there that you can buy for $10K that you don't need to deal with wrecked/salvaged stuff. Unless you are getting the car for a seriously cheap price and accept the fact that it may be an even more temperamental beast and require lots of work, I would stay away.

As far as an '06 LS goes you might need to come up with an extra couple grand to get anything under 100K-mi, at least around here. Something in the 50-60K-mi range runs $12-14K depending upon options and seller. I would seriously look around for an '06 if you can. Don't be afraid to look in other states. Can always fly somewhere and drive it back if it's cheap enough.

Yeah when I was shopping for my LS I was looking at e46 bimmers as well and there were a loooot of salvage ones that looked really nice in the pictures and they always, always, ALWAYS say it was "some little fenderbender/someone tapped my bumper/it was stolen and all they took was the radio etc. so the insurance co. totaled it" which is a crock of BS. Then you get there and start finding all the little issues that will never be fixable....

I'd resort to salvage titles as a very last resort. bear in mind that an insurance company values a salvage car at the price of its weight in scrap metal. KBB and other vehicle price gauging services dont price salvage cars because to them they're worth zero.

If you find a reallly nice one though that they arent BSing you about some how the car got "tapped in a parking lot and totaled" be sure to bring a mechanic friend, or if you dont have a friend go to a local shop with a solid reputation and ask a mechanic thats worth his salt if he'd come check out a car with you on a slow day at the shop for $50 and lunch or something.

^^^^ That's how you keep your mechanic happy! Works great for new customers as well! The best part is, everyone always says they feel bad making me pay! So I'm the one who gets a free lunch. I've tried to insist paying but it hasn't worked yet. I'll digress.
It's never just a ding or just a radio stolen that "totals" a vehicle! Lol. But I've also heard, repairing a Bummer(BMW)
is seriously expensive. Compared to other cars in the same price category! Especially if it's electrical.

Find a female mechanic and make that same offer. My money says you will be paying for lunch! LOL :)

Yeah, they can be temperamental and expensive. Got a buddy who bought a 2006 BMW 325i in 2008 "certified pre-owned" with 33K-mi and he's already had a bottom end and major electrical work. One time the whole passenger side of his car shorted out. Oddest damn thing I ever saw. I think his warranty claims are up in the $8K range at this point. I think his extended runs out this year and he plans to just unload it. Guess he is going back to civics. Told him to get a 5-series if he want a better built bimmer.

The engineer who worked for me out in LA used to be a BMW test engineer. He stated he will never own a BMW and only buys Mercedes.

When I said wrecked I didn't mean totaled. I just meant its been in a wreck and repaired at a body shop. Clean title of course. Even though it doesn't take much to total these cars.

I don't mean to go on a rant here, but I vote for a new law, if someone cause damage to your property while driving without insurance, the police should give you ten minutes in a locked room with the low birth weight son of a b!tch and a pillow case full of old door knobs!

+1
Lol, the low birth weight s.o.b should be optional. I wouldn't need some equal opportunity employee to do a job that I'm already mad enough to knock out myself! :D
