So today I think I got a late birthday gift or an extremely early Christmas Present by picking up some 6x8 Infinity Reference Door Speakers and 6x9's for the deck lid.

Oh boy was I excited. Then I dug into installing them. I knew the rear deck ones were stock, the doors were aftermarket (one blown). So I thought I wouldn't be needing the wire harness to just plug and play.

First obstacle, my car fits in my garage, but not enough room to open the doors all the way.

So I'm balls deep in my car at this point trying to get the rear deck cover off. All 6' 255 lbs balled up in the back seat wreaking havoc. about 20 minutes goes by and I'm like hey LVC has got to know how to do this. Quick search bam we're golden. Started taking the subs out, one of my sockets worked (SAE) on taking one side out but didn't' fit on the other side. I don't have a metric tool set here so I had to go run and pick up a socket set (it's 6mm btw if anyone was wondering). Get back and finally get the woofers out and I'm as happy as all get out.

Unwrapped the new ones and I attempted to drop them in. The mutherfuhrers don't fit! Tried it with a spacer, the screws are too big, screws are not long enough. Tried everything short of bending some things to make them fit to no avail. So I thought welp those are going back. So I leave that alone and start on the doors.

Now remember they don't open all the way so I'm kinda crammed in my back seat at this moment. The door panel is off and I'm ready to yank the old ones out. I do and lo and behold there is no damn wire harness for the plug and play. So I'm thinking well I got a soldering iron, solder, put two and two together and you get 5 somehow. So I finish soldering them in, this is still on the first door mind you, and I test them, and they don't work. Come to find out a weeee piece of the solder touched the basket the speaker sits in.

Long story short. Spend three hours on it tonight and the only thing I accomplished was removing the door panel and rear deck.

Just would spend the extra money to do a nice clean quick and easy install instead of hacking wires and cutting corners. Now I have to drop another $60 to get the bloody harnesses that just so happen to be on backorder.

Needless to say I am furious. A three hour job is now going to span days and/or weeks.

This seems to happen to me every once in a while too... Things don't always go as smooth as they should, or as smooth as you'd like them too.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It sucks to have a day like that. I hope tomorrow is a better day. I have to ask because I am getting ready to do the deck speakers on my LS. I searched through Crutchfield, and the only 6x9's that they say would work are Polk Audio. What didn't fit about the 6x9's you have? Does it look like something that could be made to fit with some deck "massaging"?

On Veteran's Day I decided to change my shocks. Normally a 3ish hour job done alone. As my spring compressor was junk I spent almost 11 hours getting just one done. I had to go to Sears the next day to get the other three done. Now I'm in the market for a new compressor; and not the jack-screw type!

The day was better. I happened to be in South Bend visiting some friends at Notre Dame and stopped at a Best Buy on the way back. They only had one pair of the speaker harnesses so I figured it's a start. Got back and installed the rear doors.

It's hard to explain. The best way I can say is that both the stock sub and the speaker are 6x9 "class". The basket on the speaker I was putting in was a little wider than the stock subs though. Still the same size but the baskets were different. It would have fit with the right spacers/screws and what not but I'm not fenaggling the rear deck or the speakers to make it work. Plus I have two twelves anyway that I think will just take over what the stockers do. So I have them left out and I'm going to see what it sounds like, having the two holes going into the cabin. Might be able to squeeze a few more decibels through there lol.

I'm returning the 6x9's that don't fit and a set of 6x8's that "I found cheaper online". I advise anyone installing the speakers to please use the damn harness for plug and play, it's just bogus to go the hard way splicing wires and soldering. I'll be stopping by every Best Buy on my 4-5 hour trek home finding them.

If you don't know what they're check this link. Makes the taking the door panel the only hard part of the process (always sounds like I'm breaking stuff).
