Hello all !

Ok well back at 117000 I replaced the tensioner and well then the chain snapped. I replaced two exhaust valves (fun :D) and now my black beauty has 122000 and still running strong, must be a miracle!!

Any how, as I removed everything I removed the power steering pulley prior to removing the pump thought it was easier to remove the 4 bolts without the pulley in the way.

Problem is when installing the pulley I snapped out the long install bolt and it ended up not being all the way in which is why it squeaks like crazy on cold mornings for about 45mins which here in St. Louis will be for the next few months.

Any ideas on another way of installing that pulley further in? I can't bolt anything into the shaft hole since it has a piece of bolt stuck....

Easier to just replace the pump and re-use the pulley rather than attempting to bench press the pulley on?

Thanks !

Extract the broken bolt or have it extracted. Not too good to have the pump only held on with only 3 bolts. Alot can could go very wrong very quickly.

any ideas on why the chain snapped originally? something to so with the tensioner install?

I think that his pump is held on by all four bolts. He snapped the bolt that you use to press the pulley back on the pump shaft. So, the pulley is not completely installed. I think that's worse than missing one of four mounting bolts.

The OP needs an extractor set, like Craftsman 3 pc. Screw-Out Damaged Screw Remover Set 52514.

Probably need to pull the pump again and work on that pulley on the bench. I did the R&R with the pulleys attached without problems, but that was also with the A/C compressor and radiator removed.

I think the only option is to try to use an extractor to get it out of the snout. Maybe the bolt was turning as you were installing the pulley, causing it to bind and then snap? If so, extracting might be a big problem. Can't use heat on that, either.

marcredd: its the pulley install not the mounting bolts, sorry.

G-RELL: The chain expanded I guess once the tensioner started to give and when I bought the car I replaced the tensioner and not the chain, which wasn't smart !

joegr: you are correct! extraction looks like my route or new pump

oddball: yea I'm ordering a new pump and installing my pulley, extraction can be a pain and then again if I can't remove it I'll be stuck with the car down, may as well order a new pump and be sure I can fix it.

Thanks all for the comments, sorry been busy with work and totally forgot.
