2000 Lincoln LS v6, 67,000 miles.

rough idle, hesitation during accel, no oil leakage. last time CEL light came on, it ended up being a misfire in #1 and #5.... the spark plugs were replaced & boots were greased, now CEL doesnt come on, but its still running the same.
recently had a trans flush, always runs on 93 octane gas, regular oil changes, fuel filter replaced....

i noticed the trans shifts into gears very slow & rough (its an automatic) well, this wouldnt be SUCH a big deal, except the other day i took off at a green light, and at about 30mph it just jerked back on me, and died. :Bang
i just turned the key to off, put it in park, and it started up again fine, but now i have to take off very carefully to avoid it doing that to me again!!
i'm thinking i should replace the vc gaskets & coil packs to see if that will help & if not, i dont know!!!!

i saw the tech article for the v8, but has anyone ever replaced the gaskets & coil packs on a v6? if so, how is it done? whats the cost on the parts, and how long does it take?

can someone post or email me a how-to on the vc gaskets and coil-pack replacement? luckieleo5408@hotmail.com

HELP!!!

oh boy, I just went through this one. The RH side is going to take you a while. Do you have deep well metric tools? you will definitely need a deep 10 and a deep 8 mm. I can email you some stuff over as well as my phone number because there is some :q you just can't see very well in the illustrations.

I have the shop book and alldata.com and neither did a very good job of depicting some of the stuff that had to be removed from the RH side.

Contact Maxx at 5 star and order your parts. I started off witha minimum of three coild because the work you have to do to get the intake manifold off is ridiculous and it will be well worth the money to just replace them all now.

the cylinders are as such:
Rear of engine
3 6
2 5
1 4
Front of engine

1,2 and 3 require about 5 hours of labor the first go at it. Might be less if I can get you on the parts that are a pain early on.

The LH side is a snap. I did that during my lunch break. Have some RTV handy, new plugs, coils and gaskets. I found that my gaskets are actually in good shape but replaced them any way.

My 2000 V6 has just short of 100K miles. Gaskets are just fine. That was a V8 problem, the V6's don't have the same set-up. I've done my plugs twice now (I don't believe that 100K mile tune-up stuff). While removing the upper intake is a bear, it is easier the second time around. The gasket between the upper and lower manifold is reusable, as long as you're careful.

Sounds like low trans fluid to me. Have that checked.

I wish you would tell that to my LS. Mine has been cracked open twice for this operation. Once by the dealer and recently by me. I was tempted to spakel on some RTV and say the hell with it but i take pride in my work.

The 100k mile tune is BS; I dont buyt it for one minute.

i have emailed you some files and my number. As long as you have some covered space to work under and some hand tools the job will be a success.

You will need to drain the radiator before you disassemble anything so have some coolant on standby as well.

thank you so much eL eS!!! i got your email. right now i'm flat broke, but hopefully as it starts to warm up a little bit next month, and my dad is off work, we can do the coil packs/gaskets. im goign to do them all, regardless.. i cant do it till i have money #1, a full weekend above 40 degrees, and someone to help. but its gotta get done, and i'm not looking forward to it.

yeah, we have a 2 car garage, and tons of tools!

thanks everyone for all the help, and whoever it is that has 2 v6 LS's, i feel sorry for you!! i guess this hassle makes up for the money we save in gas not having a v8!!
:L

the coils on the LH side are a snap so as you get the funds you can replace them. The gaskets are cheap about 7 or 8 bux each so you could do the LH side as soon as it warms up. Keep my contact info hand just in case you need it.

I didn't drain my coolant. Some will leak from the connections on the throttle body, though.

yeah, after having done the job I don't think it would be an issue but I always say follow the procedures until you are familiar enough to deviate from them.

Hey el es, could you send the same info to me, as I'm undertaking the same repairs to the vcg's, coils, plugs...I know its over 6 years ago but i bet you still remember the problems.. my direct email is kurtthechef@gmail.com . Thank you.
