Ok, my old V6 was really easy to change the oil. I now have an '05 V8 and bought the oil and filter to change it myself. My car is up on the ramps as i type with the oil draining but i noticed one problem. I have a universal adapter type thing that attaches to a wrench to allow easy removal/tightening of the filter. Well, the filter has such little clearance that it wont fit on the filter. I am probably gonna have to wait till the wife comes home to use her car to go buy a strap type wrench. How have you guys changed the oil filter on a '03+ V8 ?

I dont have a v8 but shouldnt you be able to remove it by hand? Clearance is always an issue but they should only be hand tightened in the first place so one would think you would be able to remove it by hand as well. I have the same universal adaptor that fits over the end of the filter and used it back when I had room to change my oil. You may be able to rap a rag around the filter and sinch down on it the same way a strap type removal tool works. Just my thoughts on the matter. Good luck to you.

I dont know if all years with the V8 have the same location, but i cant even fit my hand in there. Between the oil pan, the drive belt and some hoses its damn tight up in there. The V6 LS was the easiest to change. I am actually shocked at how small the oil pan is on the V8.

I use a craftsman "strap wrench". it's a piece of rubber and a handle and it works great. Other method is to hammer a scredriver INTO the filter then use it to turn it.

Problem solved. Got picked up and ran to Walmart to get a strap wrench. Its even tough to get the strap in there with such tight clearance. One thing that spooked me is this was the first oil change i have needed since buying the new '05. The oil drain plug was so loose i was able to unscrew it by hand, stupid ass mechanics. Today just must not be my day though, changing and filling back up i started it up and went to reset the oil life thing, it says to reset hold the reset button, ok. I guess my superhuman strength was too much and the F*cking buttons broke off the plastic mounts, pushed right thru. Back to Walmart for some epoxy.
