Anybody know the pro's and cons of a remanufactured engine? I have been looking for a replacement engine for my LS for months now. The problem that I have been running into is that nearly every used engine I was ready to purchase turned out to be a lie. I contacted nearly every reasonable low mileage engine listed on car-part and, after doing a CarFax on the engine's VIN's I say at least 90% of all of them listed or told me false mileage. I guess they don't know about Carfax. They tell you 20, 30, 40, 50, even 60 K miles on the engine, but the CarFax clearly shows the VIN matching up with a car with well over 100k miles. It even indicates which yard the engine went to and what kind of accident (or flood) the car was involved in. My current engine is just over 100k and I see no point in replacing it with one with more miles. I've pretty much tossed that idea out the window now and am looking at a re-man engine since I can't afford a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions or even know a reputable dealer? Also, if anyone needs a CarFax, let me know asap. I have like a day and a half left on my subscription.

check out bayauto.com. they are out of green bay, so it might cost some $ for shipping, but in the past, i have had good luck with them. when my grandfather had his ford dealership, that is who we went to for some of the replacement parts. you can also check out lkq.com

There is a guy on ebay parting out an LS that was hit from behind. Not sure if the engine is sold yet though.

did you check out Jasper? I used a Jasper quad 4 back in the day. It was pretty cheap and they give you a 3 0r 4 year warranty on them. Im not even sure if they make one for the LS but they re-manufacture just about every other engine or transmission so it might be worth checking out.

Brand new engine on ebay right now. There always seems to be brand new engines on ebay, prices seem acceptable too. Thats the way i'd go. Seeing how finnicky the LS is i wouldnt touch a used engine. The amount you may save buying a used engine could very easily end up costing you more in the long run. If you cant afford it go get a credit card with a $2k limit and your set.

Remember the 03+ engines will not work in 2000-2002 and vice versa with out a lot of expense. The electronics of the computers are different.

If you decide to go the reman route, do the research on the remanufacturer. Are you going to tear the motor down before installation to see whether or not it really has new pistons? The same type of oufit that is willing to tell you a 100k used motor only had 20k will put new bearings, gaskets and a fresh coat of paint on it and call it remanufactured.

I put about 60k miles on a Jasper remanufactured engine in an old van, it was still running great when the frame rusted out.

There is a guy parting out a 02 Lincoln with 14K. He doesn't have the engine listed, but when contacted him, he said $2200 for engine and tranny. The only thing is, its in California. But thats a good deal for a good engine.

Thanks for the input. I can't use the new engine on eBay since I have a V6 and he only stocks the V8's. I did check with Jasper but they're a little more than I want to spend. I have to do more research on the reman company I'm looking at. As a matter of fact, has anyone used this guy before: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...e=STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=8033493200&rd=1

He offers a 3-year/100K warranty. Also, I did also check with the guy parting out on eBay. We keep missing each other due to the time zone difference. He has a really good price. But, after looking at so many engines now, I am a bit skeptical.
