So I'm upgrading my stereo system and was wondering if anybody knows how to install a compasitor. I'm going from one L5 to two L7s and don't want to mess up my battery.:dj:

a capacitor goes inline between your fuse and your amp. so the setup would be battery fuse capacitor then amp. they also need to be grounded like your battery and amp.

the easiest way to do it is to put the cap near the amp. run both power and ground to the cap, and then run both power and ground from the cap to the amp. done simple parallel circuit.

I use mine as a terminal block for the 3 amps I have in the back

3 amps. WOW

Actually I have an "old school" setup with 4 amps.
1. Rockford 1000 watt rms mono amp for subs.
2. Rockford 500 watt rms for the 4 door speakers-mids.
3. Alpine 200 watts rms for coneless Bass Shakers under front seats.
4. Soundstorm 100 watts rms for tweeters behind glovebox.

Also have
Kenwood 6042a 1/2 din EQ w +-12db and
Kenwood KEC 202 1/2 din 3 way crossover

where the ashtray used to be.
so I can control the overall EQ as well as the EQ and gain on all 4 amps from the dash.
The thing keeps popping my trunklid open :D

Your car must be lound as :q :q what kind of subs do you have?

Well I put my new system in last night it was kind of a pain in the a$$ but it bumps LOUD. I put in a new power line I went from 10 gage to 4. Then I put in my new amp its a 2500 watt performance teknique 2ch. I have that running to two solo baric L7s in a ported box. I do have to say it was worth the money. I had a couple of my friends over when I was doing the install and when I first turned the radio on their jaws droped and their first reaction was to laugh.:eek2: :dancefool

i do get quite a few jaw drops from my L7's, but never laughter, never

i am getting tired of my review repositioning itself straight down, but then again, what are you gonna do

Yea that does suck the thing that bugs me is no trunk space but i love a lot of bass. The best thing about it is putting your lady in the back seat and let the vibrations do their thing. :hump: :hump:

You should build a box like mine.
3.7 cu ft with very little lost trunk space.

Usually I wouldn't mind but I do need some room in the trunk. I don't like putting the groceries on my back seats.

Yea, I have 2 15" L7's in my explorer, that im gonna be putting in my LS soon, and in my explorer it makes for alot of this:

*Jaw drops*>>>*Holy SH*T's*>>>*laughter* haha

This box leaves lots of trunk room.
You could probably mount 15's in it.

that would leave a lot of room but it wouldn't hit as hard as it could because it wouldn't be to the specs for the L7s.

If the poster above is running 2 JL L7's a capacitor is the worst idea. The draw from the subs would still dim his lights still. The best way is a 2nd battery set up.

kicker makes L7's, JL makes W7's, and a second batter is the worst ideal, unless you have a HO alternator to be able to charge the system.

batterys and capacitors are both storage devices, if one of them is a bad idea, then so is the other.

if you head lights are dimming, then you car (alternator) is not producing enough power to propperly drive both the cars electronics and the sound system, adding another battery will actually make the problem worse, because now the alt has to charge two batterys and power the car and the amps. battery's don't create power, they just store it for later use. if your having low power problems then you need to create more power by having a high output alternator, not add more stuff for the already overtaxed charging system. the only reason you see competition vehicles with tons of batterys, is because in competition, you only need to power the system up for a very short period of time, not for constant uses while driving,

if your car barely has enough power to run the vehicle and run the amps, it also needs to have enough left over to charge the battery, now if you dont create anymore power, and you add a second battery, then some of the power that was charging the first battery has to go to charge the second battery. now instead of having one battery that was mostly charged, you will have two batterys that are charged half as much. raising the level of power you can store does absolutely no good unless you can make more power to drive the system AND have some power left over to charge the batterys. since you have only one device in the car that can actually create electricity, i recommend that you start there

get one good battery and a HO alt.

oh so true, especially since 15" L7's need at least 3 cubic ft per sub for a sealed box and 6 cubic ft per sub for a ported box

EDIT: i originally thought flowmaster had the 15's but after rereading i see that brian has the 15's and flowmaster'ss size was not listed, his specs might be different

My L7s are 12's I think 15's would be too much in a car but in a suv thats a different story. With the 12's my car vibrates a lot and with 15's I wouldn't even want to imagine how crappy it would sound. Even if you dynomat everything thats just too much power.
