I never noticed that on mine. Can't wait to get home and check. So does that mean do don't have to drop gas tank to change the fuel pump?

but there are two? one under each seat...
Yep. The LS's fuel tank is a "saddle bag" design, with a "hump" that goes over the drive shaft. On one side is the main pump; the other is the "jet" pump that shoots the gas over to the side of the tank with the main pump.

Last time I saw those was when a cooler dumped over on my rear seat. I took the whole thing out to sop up the water and let the rear seat dry on my porch for the day. Glad it was summer when that happened.... although I was not happy about it.

Glad to know which is which on the fuel pump.

Awesome! That should make cleaning the seat a whole lot easier. And, you can smuggle stuff in there!

Coolers go in the trunk!

Even if you're booze cruisin. :D

its the magical portal that lets the dealership take a half hour to replace your fuel pump, but charge you for 10 hours labor. they tell you the tank has to get dropped but it doesn't.

Damn, wish I knew that a few months ago... my fuel pump went out and they charged me $400 labor to replace it. Guess I won't be taking my car to that shop any more. Living in an apartment sucks, how do I do my own repairs without leaving my car on blocks all day??

That is awsome to know... I can't wait for April 14th so I can see my back seat flip up.

Any other magical portals you guys aren't talking about?

haha, just like the " In Tank" fuel filter portal behind the wheel well liner!

Cool stuff, I can't wait to check out the removable seat and the fuel pump access portal.

I also will be crawling underneath to check out the saddle bag fuel tank. Great idea, that probably helps with load balancing too. What I don't understand is why they saddled it over the drive shaft and not under it, once I see the layout I will understand. Does fuel just spill over to the other tank when filling 'er up? Does the jet pump kick in when one side is dry or is there a float of some sort that triggers the pump to keeps both wells level?

If they put it under the car, the driveshaft would hit it when the car raised up from either being on a lift or going over a dip in the road. That could be a bit dangerous.

Makes perfect since. DUHH ----> ME. OK this is why I am not an automobile mechanic.

yup atleast your willing to ask the questions and listen to the answers.

as for the jet pump... there is a basket inside of the passengers side tank. it holds a set amount of fuel.... and when you punch it, that basket is what hold the gas at the pump. if you were low on gas and dropped the hammer, the gas would move away from the pump if you didnt have that basket thing. The car tries to keep that basket as submergred as it can. if it does it on a float system or not...IDK. but thats the main idea with the gas tank
