I've had the car for a year. :hehe: But, I'm still trouble-shooting some issues.

In the next two weeks I'll be replacing the outer tie rods, and control arm end links along with the bushing. (*struts replaced) Along with doing that I will be replacing the tranny fluid for the 2nd time in 6 months (first time I didn't flush the torque but did replace the filter.)

I've flashed the ECU (PCM... chip etc. ) to a 98 mark and firmed up the shift points.

I've run seafoam through her and cleaned the maf, replaced the air filter and the spark plugs.

The reason for the post is to ask why I would be getting such cruddy gas milage. I've done the maintenance. I'll be looking at the egr valve when i do the suspension for any vacume leaks down there. ( would really like a pic to see what I'm looking for btw. )

But does anyone know why I would be getting such bad gas milage? I'm getting 12-13 city and 20 highway. on premium.

I've done searches and I'm curious of anything in the engine could be causing the problem. I'm not getting any messages about the cats but could an O2 sensor be causing the issue? Also, I've read some stuff about cleaning the IMRC's. Does this have anything to do with the gas milage. ( bit out of my depth here. )

Everyone is prob. saying "search dude" but just looking for some advice as far as the engine goes. I know I've covered the peripherals except for the vacume leaks ( but then again I need a darn diagram of the engine to find all the possible spots and don't have one.)

Thanks

How many miles are on it? clogged cats? plugged up fuel filter? When was the last time you did a tune up? Plugs wires air filter etc? Id get all the maintanence items up to date and go from there.

Youre mileage issue could be due to poor gas. You may think its premium but I know here in the KC area they can legally sell gas that is 10% methanol and not tell you. When youre at the pump if it says 2 stage method R+M, on the octane rating youre getting methanol. They do this so they can jack up the octane rating on cheap gas. I know of one station here in my area and its about 30 miles out of my way that has real 91 oct gas. And it is worth it, I'll get an extra 50 miles out of a tank. Some states have worse laws then kansas. but Ive been noticing this R+M thing alot more lately. And most cars on the street werent made for this :q:q:q:q and the vendors are trying to squeeze an extra profit. My gas guy says HE pays an extra 22 cents a gal. And his prices are about 30 cents higher then anyone in town. But you get what you pay for. And for all of you in kansas It's the SHELL in gardner next door to the police station. The guy that owns the place is named Rick and hes always happy to BS, And its one of the few places in town you can smoke inside. Its how gas used to be and attendants used to treat customers.

95k on engine. Fuel filter, air filter etc. has been replaced. Not the fuel pump however and never done a tune-up.

I have seen the methanol gas around. I'll take a look but methanol or not 13mph city is bad. Plus INSTANT mpg on the freeway is 20. wth

Yeah, i get less than avg fuel economy myself, My hwy/city average is 21ish. But i do a little of both. Doing new plugs and wires Monday... hopefully that helps.

Where he(Myco) is has E-10...plainly marked on the pump.

Problem with E-ANYTHING is... alot of the ethanol evaporates and gets sucked out thru the evap system.
Hot days only compound this problem.

Here in houston, you can lose "ALL" the "E" which is 10% of your fuel load.

Driving habits are going to have a greater impact on MPG.

My car I'm getting 18-20 around town on my short 7 mile commute to work which never gets on the hiway.
On the hiway I'm getting 25-28 with the AC on.
