Trunk lock/stereo security question..

Well in my marquis i disconnected the part that was attached to the lock cylinder on the trunk so theives couldn't get in there. And used my keyless to pop the trunk and ran a manual wire incase the auto popper failed.(top secret spot)

Can i do this with my viii? I havn't looked in there yet as i have to take the carpet panel off the decklid.

Iirc all i had to do to the marquis was bend 2 metal tabs holding the cable to the lock cylinder and pop it off..Tape it to the side incase i ever wanted to reinstall it..The key still went in the hole but there was no wire/assembely on the inside to trigger the trunk to open..

Blah, kinda hard to explain..I've tried diff ways of bolting my box (which work great) but it requires removing the backseat and its really f'n annoying when i want to fiddle/tune my setup.

Can't you lock the trunk release button on the the door? That's what I do. My car sits in the garage most of the time though.

I've got 2 forms of theft prevention for my subs, firstly, my box is so large the only way to remove it is thru the back seat, which also requires that the lip of the backdash has to be rolled upward about 2 inches, and it's bolted to the trunk floor with 4 1/2" bolts and the speakers have to be removed to get them out, the speakers are in the box with tamper proof torx screws. My amp is where the CD changer would go, it is also bolted to the trunk floor
I normally keep the trunk release button locked

and use common sense, don't advertise what you have to people, or play it loud in areas where you shouldn't

+1. Never bump your 5 watt where you park your car for a long time or frequently. I have had people try to follow me home before.

i do lock or disconnect the inside release but that doesnt stop them from picking (beating the :q:q:q:q outa it) the trunk lock ya know. And my amp is on a amp rack attached to the rear seat frames, Box in front of it so i have to take the box out (undo secret bolts) to tune/maintain it. Which is just a pita

i count 3....cant fit out the trunk opening, bolted in and tamper proof torx. but now i know what to do, drives to tx bwahahahahaha......wait what are they lol wanna make sure its worth my time

ive always laugh about that. i saw a guy bumping like hell in a movie theater parking lot for about 15 minutes, even showing it off to random strangers then we followed him into avatar
hell i even thought about it (if i was a thief) have him show it to me in the lot then wait for him to go into the theater.....you know hes gonna be occupied for a while..........

ok, well i fabbed sumtin up..Once you take out the 3 bolts that hold on the lock mechanism you'll see the metal rod that connects the outside lock to the part that actually unlocks it. I fabbed up a 1.5"x1" metal piece that slips in between the decklid and inside lock mechanism. There is a 2cm slit in the metal part so that when you try to turn the key it stalls. You wont beable to turn the metal rod clockwise to unlock it. My 30min project for the day.

Luckily my 1 1/2 wall box is bigger than my trunk opening. Plus it weighs so much it's a 2 person job but I know they would try anyway

I had a Fairmont way back in the day when I worked at a Hi Po Stereo store. I had a wall of 4 12's where the back seat shoulda been and 4 6.5's in the doors.

Seems the scum that was looking at it at my work made some kid that lives the town over allegedly at gunpoint, lead them to my house. If anyone knows the horn is blown by pushing in the blinker stalk on that car and they blew the horn at 3am waking me up!

They got way with the head unit and about 50 CD's. They got caught and of course the kid that led em to my house tells me I blew the horn to wake you up so you would know. Yeah sure how many people are gonna know to push the stalk to blow the horn as opposed to some idiot leaning on it trying to rape you car
