okay here goes, first lets start with the symptoms i have a 1998 base model mark viii, the cars drives forwards in reverse and neutral also the reverse light on the dash wont light up. also if i push the shifter towards the park position the car fights between reverse and forward movement. next when in any position but park the car moves forward but it seems to struggle as if searching for a gear i would say. it takes 2-3000 rpms to do any movement an about as much to keep it moving. now on the other hand flooring the vehicle seems to yield normal performance ie gear shifts and acceleration. ive searched google tccoa lod etc etc ive come to the idea of the mlps or the trans going. this post is a verification if you will, also if it is in fact the mlps(nuetral safety switch) would i be able to replace it from within the car or from below it?

you agree with? also i do have reverse lights in reverse. strange thing i got the reverse light on the dash, but its still struggling to choose whether to go going forward and/or backward.

Probably with the mlps. You have to remove it from the side of the trans...So under.

I agree with its probably mlps or bad trans.
If you have a spare mlps swap and see what happens

Alright so ill get under it tomorrow, does anyone have a link to removal replacement procedures? Found one on tccoa but it was and expired page. An searching lvc yielded nil also yaaaaay 200th post been a Long time coming.

Okay so I found a leak at the radiator, cause a bone dry tranny with same symptoms. Next repaired leak and replaced fluid symptoms persist, now Im assuming my trans has somehow seized in forward gear. Next question can anyone suggest a rebuild kit for the Job?

Yeah buy a nice used low mile trans for 250 dollars and be done.
