Here's my situation:
2001 V-8 w/182K w/ optional shifter
Yesterday, after the light turned green, I hit the accelerator a little heavier than normal and the rpm's went close to 4500 while sounding that it was bouncing off the rev limiter. The car was in D5 and didn't seem to move. The car has never done this before. I let the rpms's drop and gradually accelerated and all seemed normal again. All this time there were no errors in the message center. Later that day, I did the same exact thing and the transmission repeated as stated above. This time, there was no reverse gear as well. The car would move when I placed the shifter in manual mode.
Guys, what are we talking here? solenoid pack I hope.
Patiently waiting for some advice.

I'm sure that some of you guys/gals have run into this situation with you LS.
Any quidance would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't. I think that the first thing to check would be the fluid level. Second would be the condition of the filter.

Well I finally got the car in the garage and dropped the transmission pan to change the filter. The fluid looks funky. I believe this is the original fluid, I got the car with 89K miles and don't think the 1st owner ever changed it. The car now has 182K miles. I used an OTC scanner and there were no codes. Still have no reverse, but the car drives in manual SST mode.
I'm banking on the fact that maybe the filter was clogged and I already know the fluid is trash.
What do you guys think?

If the fluid looked bad, then you need to change the filter and do a full flush. Maybe that will recover it, but it could also be too late. The book calls for this transmission to be flushed every 150K miles, so you can't blame the previous owner.

When I removed the filter it fell into the bucket of fluid, so I couldn't look at it.
Can the filter be so clogged that it starves the transmisssion of fluid?

I just replaced the transmission filter and did a complete fluid change, what a mess!!
The pan didn't have any thing out of the ordinary.
After all this there was no improvement.
So I think it pays to have it fixed, so off to the transmission shop it goes.
