I have the codes for a trans solenoid on a 00 ls v8. I called on the part and it is around $300 bucks.

Is this something that I can replace without loosing tranny fluid and alot of work?

I can get around a vehicle pretty good, but I am getting older (30)lol and I just dont care to spend alot of time or get into a big headache over something.

Thanks

There's several threads on this. Do some googling and you'll find pictures of the solenoid.

Drop pan, solenoid is on side of valve body. Not sure if you need to pull the valve body to get it off - I suspect not.

It is a PITA to fill the tranny, though. Check out the procedure in the service manual.

Dang it.....

I was hoping it was something that is bolted on the side of the tranny.

I think that I am going to call around and see what someone will charge then to do it.
I guess it would be time to go ahead and flush it and change the filter also

Thanks

I will go ahead and search for more information on this topic on the site though

800700trans.com has the solenoid packs for a lot less than $300. I have used a couple of them with good success so far.

You have to drop the pan to get to the solenoid block. It is not too tough...except the bolt that holds the connector to the solenoid is almost impossible to get to. If you do not want to be fighting with it, I do not blame you. Grab the solenoid block for $130, a new transmission filter for $15, a gallon and a half of Mercron V transmission fluid, then find a shop that will do it for you. It should only be a about two hours of labor, maybe three at most.

Small correction on the website, should be www.800700tran.com PRO TRANS PARTS is the name of the company. Oh yeah prices are great, 5yr warranty on a solenoid pack.
