2000 LS V8 Question:

I just did a Transmission Flush with a machine to get out the old fluid and replace with new, but since there is no dipstick, I am concerned about the level.

Anybody know HOW to check the level in the trans? I hate to take a chance since the auto's in these LS's are shaky at best anyway.

Thanks,
Bozz

I don't think there is a way to check it, since the transmission is "closed system" it's closed for life. But if you've drained out the old stuff, I can tell you how much the LS holds...
MERCON V XT-5-QM --> 11.9 (U.S.) Quarts.. Which is SUPPOSE to be changed every 30,000 miles

So if you kept track of how much you've dumped in... that's about the only way I know to "check".

Speaking of maint. where is the specs on mileage maint. timelines.... like where it says at 30k do this, at 50k do this....etc.

Be sure the car is level. Fluid temp should be about 100F. There are two plugs on the bottom of the transmission case, one inside the other. Hold the larger one with a wrench and use a 3/16 Allen wrench to remove the smaller one. Fluid should run out in a small stream/drip. If it does. the level is correct. ;) Good luck.

I'm sure it's around here somewhere..
You can either run by the local dealer, or you can sign up for free at
https://secure.lincoln.com/owners/
and that's how lincoln helps you keep track of everything about your specific car and maintenance schedule

Thanks for the info guys, I'll attempt to check the level as described by Lincolnlov -- the hard part is doing this with the car being level as there isn't much clearance to get underneath without it lifted.

The machine I used is very advanced, and "should" be accurate. It does a 1:1 transfer -- 16 qts. was run through the system, with the same amount left in it as when I started.

My concern was, with no way to check the level -- who knows if it had enough to begin with.

Thanks again,
Bozz

Owner's manual says it's a sealed system. There's no dipstick because the fluid level is never meant to be checked. First flush is called for at 150K miles.
