If I get a brand new trac-loc from Ford Racing and brand new gears do I still need to buy an install kit?

yes. you will want/need to replace the bearings. you NEED the crush sleeve and very likely will need different shims. might as well replace the seals too.

heres a question, how hard is it to do?

Is it something that just anyone can do with enough patience. A lot of people said that the Fuel pump install would be a complete pain in the ass, but it wasnt really a big deal.

any imput?

As long as you know and understand how to setup the backlash on the gears and have a general understanding of how everything works/fits in the pumpkin you can do it.

My suggestion is take it to a reputable performance shop that has done swaps before in your area and let them do it, this way if anything goes wrong you have someone/place to fall back on for fixing it.

And gear oil smells terrible, so if you can drop it off and pick it up without smelling that, you've done well for yourself.

You can expect to pay for about 4hrs and the install kit has all the extras you will need. You need the side brgs which most will not remove and reinstall without breaking them. The install kit is only (M4210B) $90.00 and LVC cost is $81.60, so if the brgs break you will pay 3/4 of that for just new brgs and races at the local store. And like Medium says, the stink lasts like the energizer bunny....forever. You do not want to have to do it again. The pump is a PITA but a straight forward job once the tank is out, the gears are very precise and need a dial indicator and a know how to get it done the first time like Bigboy and frogman say.

The nice thing about a Mark is that you can pull the entire rear diff and take it in, most places will charge less not having their lift tied up.
