So after seeing fellow members tails (he has the white top, and 3 lines). I was wondering what you guys thought about these guys tails http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2398440. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/508428. which ones do you like better. Also how do you think the other members would look in a stock red tail. any other suggestions, im thinking i wanna do something different when i get my car repainted.

I like both of them, if you can get away with the all black I would do that. If St. Louis is anything like Chicago, I would keep some of the red in the tail light to stay away from getting pulled over.

On my car I went with all black. After seeing the red and black I really like it. If you go with jonstintedtails.com you could do the black meduim dark (which mine are) and the red meduim light which wil knock some of the sharpness of the red off but you can still see some red through the tails.:L

Thats a good idea. Do a dark over the whole light, but leave 3 stripes in say a light medium, so some of the red still shows, but isnt too red. I think thats what il do when the car goes in for a new paint job.

PM me a pic when you get it done Id like to see it!

I thought that I was the only person contemplating these tinted tails. It is a toss up though. I lean more towards the first one, it's different. I'm not sure about those huge wheels on the LS. What do you guys think??? Also, what do you guys think about the side vents??? I've been contemplating that for a long time now??? I'd appreciate some input here.

Depending on the the color of your car I would make that decision. Seems like if you have a dark or black LS, you could get away with either. The all black tails seems like they'll go with any LS. Whereas the two-tones may have a different effect on a lighter one. I'm glad you posted because I honestly have been wondering what our tails would look like two tone. If you're going to do the job yourself, why not start with the first look and if you're not feeling it, go ahead and finish the entire tail. That's what I'm about to do. I've already tinted the side markers and they look nice. Anybody know the cheapest place to get tails from??? The cost of a spare set is also a delay for me.

One more thing, if you guys can add some input. Has anyone tried the colored tints or know how they would come out over the tails and sides? The shop that sells the tint has them in every color imaginable.

i also got mine done at jonstintedtails.com.. he does a very good job.. but it is kinda expensive.. if i were to do this again i would just buy a couple cans of nite shades and clearcoat and do it myself

He quoted me $95 (plus $20 in shipping) to do the tails on my 04. Havent had the $$ to spend on it yet... and I am also considering the nite shades and clear coat idea. Either way it will have to wait, I just put in a stereo and am still paying that off.

^^^ yes mine was the same price.. this is just for the four tail light pieces. If you want your license plate surround lights, and orange markers on the side, it will cost you a lot more, i cant remember a price, but i think it was somewhere around $180-200

Was it covered in clear coat or left exposed to the elements?

I have never used the stuff but I imagine with a properly cleaned surface and a clear coat finish it should not do this.

I have always been a believer of the adage "you get what you pay for"

Yes we used cleaner wax and alcohol to clean the surface and then we cleared them the next day and they still looked like crap. dont waste you money go to "jons" with his setup you can wax them to keep them in good condition

night shade is garbage, have them done right. Take them to a paint shop and have them mix a few drops of black in with clear and then spray them, color sand them, buff them... You will have a long lasting finish and it will look 100 times better than night shade.

Be Careful

Tinting tail lights is becoming popular. With that popularity comes attention by Law Enforcement. One thing to remember is that many states have rear red reflector laws, not just Tail & Brake light requirements. Be careful that the tint does not obstruct the reflective ability of the tail light lenses. Sooner or later, some agency is going to address this and when they do, others will also (especially if the Insurance Companies jump on board).

Oh okay, that's not that bad. I thought that it would be more costly. Of course, you must be providing you own lights. I want to keep my originals for the exact reason mentioned. If the authorities come, I can just swap in and swap out. I already have my windows tinted, so I figured that just may be the final straw for some officer.

I partially disagree tinting taillights has been popular for about 15 years or so. Remember the companY GTS and their black out covers? I think their still around. My g/f had a 98 eclipse I bought her black outs very soon after she bought it and we just sold it about 6 weeks ago and she was pulled over a couple of times and it was never mentioned by the officer(her windows were tinted as well). I do agree that one should not go too dark. I went with medium dark on my car and I think the darkness is pushing the limit. You can still see the lights well but its at the point that if you went any darker (IMHO) it might start to affect the visibility for the cars behind you. Look at my photo garage, those pics were taken at noon on a clear day with the sun behind me b/c the sun can wash out brake lights.:tmi:

i also went with medium-dark.. thats the max i recommend
