Timing issues?

Is it possible to have timing issues? Is it possible my mark needs to be re tuned?

If any timing chain skip even one tooth the engine is shot. The ingintion timing is controlled by the ecu, the only thing that could throw that off is if a crank or cam sensor is malfuntioning, and even that is very very unlikely.
