Time to start thing about paint...help

I dropped my car off at school today. Plans for the paint job is all black, grill, trimming above the lights, the chrome around the windows and moonroof, and new trim in the side moldings that will get painted black as well.

Picked up the car today, total cost was just shy of $450.
It looks very nice all black, but the paint job is not flawless. I'm a little disappointed, but as a whole it looks nice.
The car was painted with dupont centari 99A and 793 urethane additive.
He told me to put a couple coats of meguires cleaner wax right away.
Also said I cannot color sand and buff this paint.

Is this true?
I thought it was bad to wax a fresh paint job?

Nice price, how did they black out all the trim? i want to do that but i'm afraid the paint will peel off. I thought so too that waxing a car with new paint is bad. idk about that
 
I have been told its bad to wax it by many shops but that is with my paint yours may be different .
When do we get pictures?

Ya I wouldn't wax any paint right after it was done, needs time to cure.

What's wrong with the paint? Orange peel, fish eyes, runs?
 
^^^ also paints I know of need to breath if you don't let them breath you can get haze paint.
Maybe they don't want him to wet sand cause the paints to thin.
 
It has been a while since I was in the paint kitchen but a single stage paint that you cannot color sand and buff? WTF???

Could really be it is too thin but I hope that is not the case. Not sure if Dupont is now doing a water bourne paint but even so I would not wax for at least a month. After paint drys it needs to cure and curing is the release of VOCs and if the paint is sealed by wax it cannot release the gasses during the cure time. Give the teach a call and ask him why you cannot color sand and buff. Get the reason from the person who told you not to do it.

One of the painters that worked in my friends body shop worked at a Maco here in Canada and they used to do what they called Hot Paint. They would take enamal and heat it up on a hot plate and then mix and spray it. He said it always laid down so flat but the shine wouldn't last 90 days. The heat did something to the paint but by that time the 30 30 warranty on the $199.00 job was up.
 
I was told 60 days before waxing to let the paint solvents escape or you may end up with a hazy finish.
 
He said that the uv blockers are on the surface, so if I sanded and buffed the paint would fade in the sun. He said for a show car he would do so, but because It's a daily driver not to sand and buff for the reason above.

I don't understand because it was painted with a single stage, so the uv protection should be integrated into the paint.

The things about the paint job that disappoint me are, some dust on the surface in one area, some fish eyes in another, and the mirrors were not removed when painted, leaving the primer that I sprayed on the mirrors when I removed them, visible from the interior of the car, also Overspray on the drivers side window between the glass and mirror.

Some coating similar to rhino lining was applied to the rocker pannels where I was having rust issues, It's also on the lower part if the front bumper for an unknown reason.
 
Ok most of those issues can be dealt with realatively easily. As for the Rocker Gaurd as we call it up here, it will do nothing for rust. If you have rust and it is not cut out and replaced with new metal then it is destined to come back. No amount of coating is going to stop it.

Paint wise, I would think about one final spray that being if you want it as good as possible then give it a sand, remove everything and get it sprayed again and maybe get a claer coat layed over it. You can clear over single stage.

I'm thinking about doing something with the amber corner markers. It would be nice if they were a light gray. I think I have an easy solution for this. Not sure if it needs to legally be Amber.

Window tint is in my plans, unsure of the percentage to get.

Friends call it the batmobile :rolleyes:

yes not all maaco are the same.and if your only going with an enamel do it yourself, plus money is tight single stage at maaco is 199 here, but if youre going to sand it anyways i painted my 74 impala in my driveway with 15 cans of electric blue enamel and wet sanded and buffed it and it was nearly showroom quality i was amazed myself, its not that hard.
