Hey guys! I just ordered a pair of Borla S-type mufflers for my 2006. I am debating on deleting the resonators too. I plan to keep the H-pipe opposed to getting an X. This is my DD, so I'm looking for a nice exhaust note without going bonkers. Other mods include an MPT tune and a K&N CAI.

Is there anyone running a similar setup? How is the drone on the highway? Also, I am looking into a nice set of larger tips to fill the bumper cutouts. any recommendations?

put the muffs as close to the x pipe as you can. that will minimize the drone.
if you put the muffs in the stock location, expect drone.

shouldn't get too much drone if keeping the resonators. but with out them and just mufflers (louder) out back, I only really get drone from 1800-2200 rpm. but yeah, it can be pretty loud...

right - if you keep the stock resi, or even an aftermarket one in, you'll minimize the drone to a point.
i'm about to change up the exhaust on mine due to the drone in 5th, at lower speeds, i.e., not hwy
speeds. more city driving. bullets in the stock locations, and an x pipe. worse than my cammed gto.

Ive got a pair of flo delta 44s in the back, no resonators and the the sound was perfectly kinda loud with out a madding amount of drone, but then I clogged up the cats so I had to hollow them out to get her derivable again... after that the drone became way too much and its a little more raspy that I would like so I've been thinking about throwing a set of aftermarket resonators back in to settle it back down a hair.

Thanks guys for the input. I will probably delete the resonators and try to place the Borlas as close to the H-pipe as I can.

My other car (weekend toy) is a 500 rwhp supercharged Crown Victoria, and it is anything but subtle. the exhaust is deathly loud at any RPM, so really anything quieter than that is ideal... LOL. Even if there is a little drone on the LS, that's okay. I just wanted to make sure the drone would not be super excessive.

Does it need to be mufflers close to the crossover or will resonators or straight-through mufflers (glasspack, turbo stick or whatever) do the same thing?

Drac, im I'm gonna need to see that Vic in action

I will probably look into removing the resonators completely and place the Borlas in the resonator location, then put some nice tips on the rear.

Can't wait to get some more mods done. I told myself I wouldn't mod this thing since it is a DD, but that fell to the wind pretty quick. Here is a link with some pictures of my LS. I want to lower it on coilovers soon. I just bought everything I need to address the dreaded degas tank. Going to do the water pump and thermostat while I am at it.

Here's some shots of the Vic.

That's awesome. I need it.

I couldn't help but notice under the bumper... And at the risk of adding parts to modify your DD (though no one has done it to Gen 2s yet)... Mach chin spoiler

damn that is sure a mean Vic!

is that an SVT tag on the motor??? do you have a terminator block in there? and what blower is that? looks like some real nice work was done to her!

I dont think the mach spoiler will line up right to a 06 bumper

Just needs the right application of a cutting tool... and a couple hundred dollars locked up in case you mess up

The only thing I noticed with my bumper is below the round fogs, there is an area that is not flat, it curves up at an angle.. I don't know how the Mach 1 chin spoiler will work in that area because it wont sit flush to the bumper..?

I adapted the same spoiler to work with my vic, so I'm well versed in cutting and pioneering stiff to work haha. I'd love to try it on my LS... Just those non-flush areas below the fogs worry me.

Terminator long block/cams with an Eaton M122 ported and polished GT500 supercharger. Stock blower pullies. It has a lower compression setup for safety (8:1) its at 10 PSI and pushing 417 rwhp/437 rwtq. I need to build my trans before I can add more boost. :) It still has the stock 4 speed auto in it LOL

I've gutted cats on a number of occasions. Only once did I find it necessary to remove them completely before having at it with a length of 1/4 inch pipe that I'd ground into a cutter at one end and chucked into a 1/2 inch drillmotor. Did you find it necessary to remove them entirely on your LS before doing the job? Starting the engine after breaking-up the honeycomb certainly results in a cloud of 'stuff' coming out the downstream end!

Please tell us what you found to be the proper process!

when I did it, I did pull the whole assembly out, I think because of how the LS's system is shaped that not doing so would make it kinda hard.

for at least my LS, I have the one piece system with three cats, one off each header and then the larger single changer cat in the center, if the tool for hollowing was made with something that had a flexible shaft, they you may be able to go all the way through the third cat and then around the two bends to make it up to the main cats on each side.

the tool I had available was just a drill mounted paint stirrer, with a straight solid shaft and way only about 18"-24" long, also I wanted to be able to see down each end to make sure that all of the material was completely removed as I didn't want to leave a small amount that would just get knocked loose as some point and then get trapped in one of the mufflers.

if I ever pull do any changes to the system, I really want to actually cut the cat housing out and replace with straight pipe, I cant imagine having the pipe expand so much and then drop back down to normal size has to have some kind of negative effect on the flow since there is no longer the added resistance that the honeycomb adds to the flow.

if my cats were not destroyed, and I still wanted to go cat-less, I would probably definitely just make a new section of pipe to replace the whole assembly (especially with the resources you have available) so that I wasn't destroying such an expensive part that didn't have any problems!
