Car started smoking this morning on the way to work. who knows why... trying to uphold its ford reputation i suppose.

smoke is comming from rear drivers side. I figure its oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold.

valve cover gasket right? is there anything else that can cause that that is back there?

sucks ass cuz its like 15º today, and having the heat on just makes the interior reek and full of smoke.
 
get a vcg today.

it smells like someone dumped 10 gallons of oil in my car...i THINK its oil...
 
guess i get to go to the dealership. if it was the passengers side VCG i would be fine. the drivers side just has to much crap in the way. and the fuel line that wont seem to come apart. yay...theres 200$ i couldve done without spending.

wonder why they both decieded to blow up.

Well i got into it further. got past a part that was really making me doubt myself. got everything removed that was in the way but left the coils in. so i went to take those out. got the cover off and the underside seemed a bit...shiney? lol. pulled the COP's...yea...its deffinetly time for valve cover gaskets! id say between the 4 of them there was about 1/3rd cup of oil

The passenger side will get done tomorrow as well probably. The underside of my intake tubing was coated with oil...bit odd! then ill do a pan gasket. and all my leaks will be fixed.
 
to late....the only thing i wish was said in the tech write up is there are 2 bolts on the inside of the valve cover where the coils are.

maybe a tip or 2 to get the dipstick to come out, i used a dremel and cut where it goes around the bolt. screw it ill own this thing for the next 5 years if i can.
 
well i got them changed today. holy crap. not really the easiest job in the world. I suggest doing the drivers side first. then the passenger side is a BREEZE lol. drivers side SUUUCKS.

Cant tell if its fixed yet or not. I need to buy new coils :( and possibly plugs. It was crazy how they were soaked with oil. absolutly CRAZY. of course when i took the plugs out it all went into the cyl...so the first few starts was just pure smoke. hopefully that didnt damage anything.

guess i get to ride the bike to work tomorrow lol and its not warm :(
 
i did mines over the weekend and seven out of eight were soaked. i got new boots cleaned up the coils. it fired up fine running strong i changed the plugs though and will be changing the coils soon since i don't know if the original owner ever had them changed. any suggestions here on good coils to go with that are better than the motor craft or should i keep it factory?
 
from what i hear motorcraft are the best.

I got some off ebay for 130$.

how bad were yours soaked? if i pulled the plugs out, the plugs looked like they were thrown into a bucket of oil and fished out. i couldnt get them from the valve cover to a paper towel without them dripping on the car/engine bay. the coils were so bad that when i tried to remove them all but 3 the boot was stuck to the plug. so i had to yank it out with pliers.

i hope the coils fixes my problem. i can do plugs too but i just did both plugs and coils within the last 10-15k miles. platinum plugs of course too...they should last long. who knows though when oil gets to them.
 
for the most part the were drenched the same, the boots were covered (seven out of eight of them) and it just started missing a week ago. you could barely see the tip of the spark plug it was so much oil in it. it didn't help that the guy who helped me do them (a known mechanic in my circle) botched the drivers side gasket, lost one of the two interior screws and didn't even torque the bolts like he was suppose to so i ended up doing the drivers side over again and bought another gasket. i've always been kind of skeptical about ebay. i'll check it out though. thats a good price.
