Not wanting to jack Hernandez's thread, Thought id start my own... With my 02 LS I'm going for more of a sport look. (no chrome, possible black roof, black and colormatched grill, etc) in doing so, im thinking about painting the woodgrain. whats everyones opinion on A. even painting it, and B. what color...

black,
LPG- (light parchment gold / outside color)
try to match one of the interior colors (like the top mocha color)

and then

high gloss
satin
flat
???

let me know what ya think...

You know I have thought about doing the same thing. It has always been one of the very few things that bug me about the ls. I had a Chrysler 300m special which i loved the interior of because instead of the standard wood grain every other 300 had my special had faux carbon fiber in place of it. I wish the sport model ls's had this same trim and the non sports had the wood grain. I guess that why we have these forums so we can all share our ideas to make a good thing great!

Man i love the wood grain.

Its a luxury car. Gen II is real wood though.

Did all the Gen 1s have the wood grain trim? I know you could get silver trim or black trim in place of the wood on the Gen 2s. I always liked how the gloss black trim looked. I would paint it all gloss black and paint the exisiting black parts gloss black. Carbon fiber looks pretty good as well.

i'm definitely going to do the silver with the wood grain...whats the best way to do the area of the buttons?

Does the unit come off leaving just the cover or is there a better way then taping off every button?

for a sportier look you should use satin black, or satin gray like mine.
because in my opinion the other two colours would give it a luxury style (wich im lookin for)
but if you are going to paint the whole woodgrain you should use gloss

when are you planning on doing this? ill post pictures of the process because removing the fascia is a bit annoying

I worked at chrystler when the 300m specials came out... Awesome looking cars. Specially with the two tone interiors and those stock 18s. Best wheel they ever made.

Was my favorite car to date. The stock duels had the right amount of growl to them.My mgr drives a silver one now!

car was way ahead of its time style wise... not to mention the most comfortable car to sit in by far...

I tell you what i really really like is the interior styling of the Pagani Huayra, I know it is a super car and what not, But I like the look of all the leather stitching and the Brushed aluminium parts and it looks nice not cheap. I like ours too but If I could do something like that that would look so nice.

I'll find a pic

maybe i can go pick one of those up and see if any of the parts are interchangeable...:shifty: ... IDK, at first i thought the piano black would look bad... but its starting to grow on me... I think im down to a high gloss black, or high gloss mocha / olive drab color...

Obviously I do not want to go buy a Pagani interior I just really like the Styling ques they have, and maybe recreate a similar style in the ls .

I'd go the other way. There are, I think, outfits that offer real wood overlays for the fake wood found in the First Design LS. Go sit in an XK or XJ or even more in an Aston Martin. That's what a true sports interior is like. I had a Jag Vanden Plas before getting the LS.

that was the car i was debating on getting before the LS, cant remember what year it was, im thinking 99-02... maintenance issues scared me off.... (LOL sounds crazy i know).

I'll play around with it and spray some test pieces and set them in the car..

Thanks

Jvip,

When I get home I will look at it, I have the radio face in my basement so i will try to see if and how that comes apart, you have a gen one right, with the stock radio or no.

.... and dont jack the "non thread jacked painted console thread" about painting your console....:)

The buttons on the AC wont come off easily you have to unpin them because each of it has its own pair of pins. i did it with a very small flat screw driver and i still broke like 5. when you remove the console you have to remove the green thing with the electronic circuits, the bolts can be removed with a small pliers

anyone have a link to remove all the woodgrain. i remember someone saying the doors are tricky... what about the passenger side dash?
