thats it, the lincoln dealer down here is going to warrany the engine, lol took them a week to discover what I had been telling them, piston ring failure on 1,4,6,7 go figure @40,353 miles

that is odd for such low miles. But hey, with hundreds of thousands of cars, if it can happen... it will.

ya it is strange i'll admit but who knows, it happened very quickly too, over a matter of about 1800 miles went from fine to forked, beed running mobile 1 in various weights since just under 10k too

various weights since just under 10k too

why.. it takes 5w20??? you could have killed the rings??

haha no no, im sorry that came off wrong, it has factory syn blend 520 in it till around 10k then switched to synthetic, since then its either had 5-30, or 0-30 synthetic mobile one in it, been building engines and working for ford too long, seen too much damage from 5w20 oil over the years, it works good but @100k miles every part in the engine according to ford spec's is uaually justifiably replacable due to extreme wear lol, thats why im wondering if the tolerances in the aj35 are too tight for 30w oil

so what are you saying we should run.. getting ready to do oil changw should i run 0w20??? try it atleast

I cant say that i've had NO problems running 0-30 but I cant say at all that it caused the ring failure, seeing as how it happened over basically a 1000k mile period I'd have to say that something else went wrong, my experience with 0 weight oil has been good, always clean, engine is free'd up

"seeing as how it happened over basically a 1000k mile period"

you have 1,000,000 miles on your ls?

Yeah, I know what you mean. In 1980 bought a new Mustang with 2.3 Turbo. At 1500 miles it threw a rod. Had to wait 35 days to get it back. They had no spare parts for that motor yet. And all the new blocks were for production cars only. The Service Manager finally got all the pieces to make me a new motor from all over the US. It ran so much better and faster with that hand built motor.

yes the vcg's were solid, and there was no debris in the cop wells, but o well i really hate to think it was caused by the mobil 1 but who knows

There was an issue with the AJ8 engines when they first came out, where either sulfur or phosphorus (can't remember which) in gasoline, would cause the cylinder walls to corrode, which would make the rings practically fall apart. IIRC they fixed that long before Ford got a hold of these blocks though.

Since you got so many cylinders all at once in such a short time, Id say its either some contaminant that go in through the gas, or something got sucked in through the intake possibly.

But to find out of the oil possibly lead to the wear on the rings you can get an oil analysis done for about 25 bucks and that will tell you everything you want to know about your oil.

Mobil 1 is one of the best in the industry, I kinda doubt their oil would cause your engine to fall apart.

The problem was with the Nikasil liners in the Jags; they were never used in the AJ30/35 used in the LS and T-Bird (they only used iron liners).

I'm with 97sts--with the damage coming in under 1000 miles, I'm thinking it has to be some kind of weird failure, like maybe an oil pump...

I doubt too very seriously that the m1 caused this problem Unless... I got some bad oil, I had that happen one time with castrol syntec, it came from a bad batch wiped the cams out of my zx2 sr, but doubtful, I dont think anything got past the filter and into the intake less someone was messin with me but that would be difficult, I think it was probably something in the fuel, we've seen some really bad reactions around the dallas area over the last several months as a result of bad fuel, we've been replacing fuel pumps 2 or 3 a day in the shop
