looking for some ideas on blacking out the tail lights. i want to spray them rather than cover them. thinking about putting some led tail light bulbs to help with the illumination. any ideas?

I have l.e.d tailight bulbs and they look great.. I would recommend going on ebay.. looking up the seller USDH I bought a full l.e.d conversion kit for my 01 ls v8 sport
3 212-2 red 8 smd l.e.d bulbs for the map lights and rear dome
4 194 8 l.e.d blue smd bulbs for my 2 front door lights and foot lights
4 super white 8 smd 212-2 l.e.d bulbs for my visor miror lights
2 3157 amber 68 smd l.e.d bulbs turn signals
2 3157 red 68 smd l.e.d bulbs brake lights
2 3156 red 68 smd l.e.d bulbs rear turn signals
4 194 red 8 smd l.e.d bulbs rear brake lights on trunk and 2 in tailight
2 3157 68 smd super white l.e.d backup lights
2 blue 2825 blue 5 smd plate lights.
my total was 90 bucks and im so proud with all of them they are so bright and go on and off so fast no dimming of the light you can actually tell there l.e.ds recommend x10 and im tinting my tailights and putting a clear coat and What i'm doing is using tape to tape off a design in the tailights and just spray over it and then clear the whole tailight so it all flows. ill post pictures.. i may have pictures already of the l.e.ds and ps.. got 2 sets of hid headlights 6000k for my low beams and 3000k for my fog lights 35 a piece 80 total from ebay the g4 mini kit they work outstanding sooo bright cheaper than the idiots buying the 133$ lumens ones.

VHT Nite shades seems to be the most common spray type tint. I have several coats on mine so it is very dark. The tail/brake lights are still easily visible.

JRT1418: A smidge darker than I would do mine personally, but those tails look stellar dude! Love the colormatched rear surround as well. Definetely inspired me to do mine in the near future. How many coats do you have on yours? Sanding between coats? Any tips? Thanks!

Be sure to get LED bulbs or else your tails will warp with the heat from the filament bulbs trapped by the tint .

Also, if you think you screwed them up doing it, give them a second chance. I lived with mine looking hazy/orange peely for about a year, then I discovered the awesomeness of wet sanding and polishing them.

yup, the best part of painting them, is that if you mess it up, you can always sand it off and do it again!
