what's up fellas? i'm usually somewhat handy when it comes to doing maintinance work on my LS but this i'm very leary about. I would like to change the shocks on my LS. i've never changed any suspension components on the LS except for a rear sway bar in the rear. So, needless to say, i really don't know much on what is needed to change out either the shocks, springs etc. there is nothing wrong with them but i feel it is time to change them. please if you could answer these questions for me:

1. which are the parts i should be changing? shocks only? shocks and springs? i'm not sure if they need to be replaced together.

2. are these upgradable components? can i get the sport ones, or is that something that can not be done?

3. does anyone know where i may get these parts at a good price?

4. i've helped my father-in-law change his shocks/springs and arms but that was a Honda accord, not very difficult to work with. do all of you recommend me seeking professional help seeing as i do not have any suspension experience?

thank you for your time ;)

I am, very slowly, going about the project of putting Koni coil-overs on the front of my car. Doing so requires constructing upper mounts to replace the 'spring-part' of the factory design. Konis are only available with ring/bushing attachments at top and bottom, and though that's just fine for the bottom, it's necessary to re-do the space at the top that's occupied by the extra long shaft and the spring and its attaching hardware. I know just what to do, and have a sketch made, and even have the shocks, but have had no time to go in the garage and fabricate the pieces necessary. If you're not in a hurry, I expect to have this, finally, done within the next several weeks. I'll post on the 'Land Speed LS' thread when I get it accomplished.
(Koni double-adjustable coil-overs are kinda pricey, but undeniably the best there is!

I dont think you need to get new spring, unless you want lowering springs. From what I read on here a few months ago, euro shocks are no longer available at ALL, you can still get sport shocks or the base shocks. Best bet would probably be max at five star ford.I dont know how often the other parts need to be changed in the suspension, or what componets to change since I haven't done it, i'm fairly young and only know little i've done.

thank you all for your replies. as for the coil overs? i would really love to see the step by step but it wouldn't be something i'd be interested in. Alax, sucks that the Euro's are not available, that was what i was going to lean towards. but anyways, i'll give good 'ol Max a call and ask him what i need. i do not want to lower the LS since i rub as is with a person in the back. so, all i would have to swap out is the shocks? that would be good news in my book. any additional input?

I think it was max that tried to get someone euro shocks and told them they were completly gone after searching, so yeah thats not an option, I would've like some too. What size rims are you running?

omg i just typed a huge post on here and internet explorer froze and didn't post it so long story short:

i have monroe shocks in the rear from when i put on my "eibachs", i like them and have had no problems

went to do the sprint springs yesterday, started at the front, but didn't get past the sway bar end links, bought 1 moog for $54 after tax, order another and picked it up today (sprints will be on tomorrow or sunday hopefully) i had to saw the sway bar end links off because wouldn't come off, so depending on your year your may have to replace some parts, but other than that i believe its the control arm, maybe sway bar? not sure my bro did most of the work and sway bar end links you have to disconnect maybe more

so you went with the moogs but you've had the monroe ones in there? seems like you've gone through a lot of parts. any particular reason why?

thanks for the info. seeing as i seldom come on here anymore i really didn't think of looking at that. a simple, "check out the sticky at the top" would have sufficed. thanks anyway

i have monroe shocks in the rear since i never got around to the front but i will soon have monroe shocks all the way around

i have moog sway bar end links because when i went to put the sprint springs on tuesday, we couldn't get the original ones off and and to saw them off

and i went through so many springs because jwerner is a douche

i love you

Whats the offset? Sucks that you rub with only one person in the back

wheels came with the car and i've never bothered checking the offset. i was going to roll the fenders at one point and lower it but the ride quality is already sacrificed with 20" wheel, i'd hate to add another thing to that list. a bagged LS was always my dream, but seeing as the bags would cost more than the LS i have decided to pass on that one. i'm about to hit 150k miles :D

I always thought he was one!! Glad he is not around anymore. He was a total idiot!!

i only bought from him because every one on here said he was reliable and wasn't a scammer, he sent me a message after like 2 hours after the auction ended and asked me if i was on any forums, and when i told him i was on here and said he hated it and people like to act out on here so maybe he decided to screw me after i told him that

I dont know if anyone has said this, but if you do it yourself, get a GOOD set of spring copmpressors...must have.
Really, if you are not a half bad wrench, I would go for it. With a buddy, I did mine in 2 1/2 hrs, taking our time.
