so does anyone by chance have a walk through on how to chang out a sun/moon roof. mine is busted and i picked up a new tracking and window and was wondering if there was a tech write up somewhere that someone knew about. im also hoping it includes getting the liner out as well. is there anything i should watch out for when pulling out trim and stuff like that. thanks in advance

to get the head liner out you have to remove all the interior trim that holds it up like the a pillar trim, seat belts, b pillar trim, and rear quarter trim. then you can remove the sunroof switches and\or the overhead light assy. the headliner will fall out. Then you will get a better look at how to remove the sunroof. I believe you can remove the whole assembly, but could be wrong. Hope this helps.

How do you get the headliner out of the car without damage? I realize i need to remove all the trim, but getting it out of the car looks almost impossible. Need to grease the railing on mine. It vibrates a little when i'm closing it.

I didn't mean to jack the thread, but it should help both of us out.

To remove sunroof,
Remove sunvisors, moonroof switch panel, moonroof motor access panel, both coat hooks (above rear 1/4 windows) windshield pillar panels, moonroof trim belt, seat belt pivot rings and pull the rear 1/4 panel trim loose. Working on one side of the headliner in the back seat, pull it down so it is not behind the rear 1/4 panel trim. It has some flex, but if you go to far with it it will "crack" Mine did this and when it was reinstalled, it wasn't seen. Now work the other side like the first side. Lay the seats back all the way and as you come out with the headliner, rotate it 180 degrees. Disconnect the wiring connector that goes to the moonroof motor assy. Disconnect the drain hoses. At this point you can remove the glass or leave it in. I removed the glass so it could be realigned upon installation. To remove the glass, swing out the trim panels just below the glass panel. They swing to the front of the car. Remove the 4 torx screws and push the panel up and out of the hole. Remove the front 2 bolts/nuts holding the sunroof in then remove the back 2 bolts/nuts. Now with a helper or if you are strong enough, remove the middle 2 nuts/bolts and it will fall out. If you are installing a new/replacement moonroof, remove the glass panel and the sunshield. It needs to be "flexed" in the middle to get it out. Swap over your sunshade to the new roof assy. Once the roof tracks are installed, DO NOT apply power to the motor until the glass panel is in place. You will get it out of sync and break off a small metal piece on the track. If your replacement roof assy is in any other position other than the closed position, don't remove the glass panel yet. Install it with the glass in. Once the tracks are bolted in, and if you had removed the panel with it in the closed position, insert the glass panel in the hole and adjust the front to be flush or .5mm above the roof opening. The same goes for the back. Now apply power to the roof and check its operation. If it's all ok, then reinstall everything else in reverse.

Sorry it's so long, I had to learn some of this on my own and didn't want someone else to mess up like I did. :)

To be honest in order to not damage the headliner one of the seats should be pulled out.

wow that sounds like a pain in the ass. what sucks is the little rods are busted on the window and the track. ive got a new window and a new track. not sure if its all working or now. not sure what position its in either all well sounds like a weekend project. ive got a shop manuel as well so hopefully with what i read here and what i have in the manuel i should be able to get it done. im so sick of hearing the roof pop up at 60mph.

so i was lookin at the pillars today while i was driving. do i just yank on them and they pop off or what. it almost seams like the would kinda like the kick panals on the floor.

thanks for the info guys. this should be a fun task. im so tired of watching my sunroof pop up and down when i close the doors and letting out all my SPL

I replaced my track and it was not that brutel. I got my headliner out with no issues both seats forward and is slipped out the passenger door sideways no problem.

got it installed. i dont know if its 100 percent correct. it only vents a little bit. but it does open and close and vent now. so i cant complain to much. no longer does it pop open when i close the doors. im sure it will sound different now as well when doin 60+mph. also thanks for the PM and the offer to help jeff that was cool of you.
