Major problems with my 2004 LS V8 sport. Here's the history for those who haven't read the previous posts:

1) Died pulling out into traffic. Restarted and ran a couple hundred feet, then died again. Restarted, ran another couple hundred feet where I got off the road into a parking lot. No check engine light or failsafe indicator. Would restart, idled terrible but died instantly when put into gear. Codes for throttle position sensor, they replaced and the car ran fine for a couple of weeks.

2) Died cruising along at 40 mph. Would restart, but would not even idle. No check engine light or failsafe indicator. No codes, but dealer unplugged the mass air meter and plugged back in and the engine restarted and ran fine. Replaced the mass air meter.

3) Died cruising interstate at 70 mph. Would restart, but not even idle. No check engine light or failsafe indicator. No codes again, dealer unplugged mass air meter and car restarted and ran fine. Per conversation with Ford tech support, they replaced the PCM.

4) Died cruising at 55 mph. Floor the pedal and engine would run at full power. Anything less than 3/4 petal and the engine would die. Check engine light came on this time, but no failsafe indicator. Towed to the dealer, by the time it got there it was running fine. Had codes for one bank too lean, and one bank too rich. Dealer drove the car for a week with a vehicle data recorder connected without issues.

They have given the car back to me to drive with the VDR still connected, I'm supposed to wait for the car to die again and push the button. Having a couple of issues: 1) Intermittent poor response to pedal. You start pushing on the pedal, nothing happens. After a second or two, the car takes off, breaks the tires free and the advance trac kicks in. 2) Transmission is more confused than normal. Sometimes engine will wind to 3500-4000 rpm before shifting under light acceleration. Sometimes feels like it shifts into neutral between gears, rpms jump up to 4000 and then slams into gear. Shudders going up hills at low speed because the TC won't unlock. Told the dealer about the current problems, they told me to keep driving it until it dies again.

Other issues that may or may not be related: Once I have started the car up and got a "check advancetrac" warning. Shut the car down and restarted and did not have the warning. Two other times when starting I got a message to check the emergency brake, also went away after a restart.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on with this car? Dealer says they have never seen anything like it, and Ford tech support says they have nowhere to go without further information from the VDR.

did they replace just the tps or the whole throttle body? When you mention the "delayed" pedal response seems like the drive by wire is sticking or otherwise failing. The lean/rich codes are probably from mechanic running w/no MAF meter. But due to the lack of TC unlock, poor shifting, etc my money is on the tranny:-)

They replaced the whole throttle body.

They cleared all the codes after replacing the MAF and PCM, so the lean/rich readings occured with MAF connected.

I'm thinking that the problem with the trans is that it's getting inconsistent data on throttle position.

That's very odd though. The TBW cars are SO over cautious that the minute any related sensor, etc goes mildly awry you get the infamous "ETC failsafe mode". I assume you are not getting that? Have they hooked the car up and sent commands to the tranny to lock/unlock tc, etc? And if so did the transmission respond correctly?

Never got the ETC failsafe mode message. Tranny problems are new since the last time I got the car back, so they have not done any testing on that.

I had a problem with my 00 LS V6 suddenly dying. There was no rhyme nor reason. Like your LS it would die at a traffic light, crusiing at slow neighborhood speeds or at highyway speeds.

No lamps, no codes, just sudden unexplained death. First attempt to fix was the fuel pumps. Died again the very nxt day. On the second attempt the dealer had my LS for well over 90 days and finally fixed it by replacing the REM.

I had a lot of posts on this about 20 months ago. There are a lot of differences between your LS an my last 00 LS but many of the symptoms sound the same.
