I just put a new JVC head unit in my dash and it sounds good- but needs a sub for the thump. How has the rest of this bunch handled it? I use the trunk for transporting tools and luggage, so the footprint has to remain small.
Is there a location to port the sound into the passenger cabin from the trunk without being a butcher?

there is no need to be a butcher, any good sub will produce plenty of thump
for you to here in the passenger cabin

Ya, agree, any sub you can "hear". After all its a sub, as in sub-frequency.

For rich sound got with 10", for more thump go 12". My twin 12" box fits in the back of the trunk up against the back seat and I can still get my mountain bike packed in there but i had to remove the "accessory" tray that hold cellular stuff and factory amp. If your tray is still in there, one or two 10" subs will fit really well.

I personally have always been a bigger fan of smaller subs... they just sound better... true they don't hit as hard but the bass from them is soo much tighter and more accurate... two tens is what I want in my trunk... plus the footprint for a box is a lot smaller... if you got some really good tens they'll blow away some decent 12's... plus the bandwidth of the frequency is better you don't lose as much SPL getting outside

I just bought the Wife for Xmas this set up.

This Amp

This Enclosure

I heard this in a friends car and was literally BLOWN away!!! he has another show car that is all JL because he is sponsored and he said this 10 is just as hittin' as his high end big LOOT JL stuff. The best part is all of it was only $253.00 SHIPPED!!

I have 2 12 inch SPL Mules hooked to a 600 watt PPI amp and this set up RIPS my stuff a new ahole!! One 10 inch!!

I've got a 2 12's , with the subs facing into a ported box. I have it set back so the back of the box is about 4 inches away from the back seats. Even with the magnets of the subs out. I can fix my hockey bag in there no problem. Tones of room back there. Lots of bass! Love it.

two 12s KICKERS, hit em with like 1200 watts bridged to 4 ohms. kickers require very little airspace. use .5 mdf, make yore own box and look at the instructions for air space required. you will be happy.

You can get the best of both worlds if you do a couple of 10" woofers in a ported box. I built mine to where it is sealed to the inside of the car and ran the ports through my rear deck. All the bottom end goes in the car, no rattles!!! Just make sure that you have enough power for the woofers. Get an amp that equals the RMS total of the woofers. Deep bass with solid kick. I can help design the box if you need help.

I also have 2 10's in my car. I love them they sound nice. I have always had 12's in my other cars and I think these sound cleaner and hit almost as hard. There are times where I notice a difference but its not bad and I still have plenty of room in my trunk.

I did the Alpine plv-7 powered sub box in my Escalade this past week with little space lost it delievers a pretty healthy punch its pretty close to having 2of alpine type-r 12" subs in it
