I have a 00' ls with standard sound system (no amp), i want to put a stock navi from 03-06 in can it be done and how?

Also are the dash pieces (climate control, message center buttons) from 03-06 interchangable with the 00-02?

Would it be possible? Yes. I'm 99.9% sure you can physically fit the gen 2 nav into the space in a gen 1. It would be WAY less expensive to go the route of aftermarket though. Have you checked the price of a stock nav unit from the dealership? And, though I don't know for sure, the wiring would be SO much easier on an aftermarket unit.

Why would you want to change the climate control/message center buttons?

Way more.

That is an understatement. You could get a good quality aftermarket for around $600 but you are looking at around $1500 from the dealership for the factory navi plus the wiring would be a pita. There are simple plug-n-play wiring harnesses for the aftermarket units.

Yeah I always thought it would be cheaper to go aftermarket since in-dash's are getting very affordable.

LKQ always has LS navigation systems for sale. Usually around $600. I don't think it would be that hard to wire, but definitely not as easy as aftermarket nav systems.

fit

if i could get a stock navi for cheap or close to an aftermarket would the non navi wiring harness work if i had all the equipment (i know there is a seperate harness from the dvd rom to the headunit)

I don't know this with certainty, so take it with a grain of salt.
I would assume that the factory navigation uses the car's speed as one of its inputs. I would also think that it would get this info from the CAN bus. The gen I models don't have CAN bus, so it seems like this isn't likely to work too well.

Wow, all you guys just assume that he's buying everything from the dealership? Lots of people can get deals on factory parts, and not go through the dealership. The guy is just asking IF it can be done, not whether it'd be cheaper than going aftermarket.

If he feels like re-wiring the entire car, then more power to him.

It's EASIER to go aftermarket.

There we go. :D I suppose if he's asking if it can be done, it's more than he wants to tackle. I like the look of the factory NAV unit, but I'd go aftermarket for the soul purpose that it's 100x easier.

Same here. I thought about it myself. Did a search where it was explained what the problems were and didn't bother. Didn't bother to go aftermarket either for that matter. lol

thanks im gonna go aftermarket better UI and Graphics but I wanted a clean look appreciate the feedback
