This is my first post to the forum. My car is a 2003 LS with 3.9. I modded the stock intake tube. It's a bit ghetto but it deletes the huge baffles the stock tube comes with. I've had this mod done for a month or so now and have had no problems with it. It took a hack saw, rtv high temp gasket maker, a small amount of abs plastic, and about an hour of time. I originally got the idea from one of my previous cars which was a 99 Firebird. Let me know what yall think.

I know having bright orange sealant looks ghetto, but it can be touched up with a bit of spray paint.

^ maybe a little less restriction but mainly sound I bet

Maybe on the butt dyno you can feel it, mainly cause it's a mind trick. You can hear it a little bit more. No huge improvement overall. I saw 01Continental had bought an adapter from spectre and slapped a 4" K&N cone filter on it. I was thinking of combining the 2 and see how that worked out.

The butt dyno is calibrated to 12 significant digits... :shifty:

Yeah, it's the same kind of trick as popping the silencer cone out on fox bodies. It just causes more turbulence in the intake and a louder sounding engine. It's all about NVH really not performance.

Looks like the most helpful thing it did was allow you to look down the front of the engine without that damn baffle in the way!

I'll get around to putting that cone filter on the end and see it anything happens. I've got a friend who already has the filter. I'd just have to pick up the adapter from an auto parts.

Hm, I was wondering what those extra pieces were for on my '03.

This car came with tons of sound restriction from the factory.

That's true, but on my '90 MK7 LSC, popping that silencer cone and replacing the intake tube from a Mustang was a for sure increase in response, no placebo there. :p

Honestly the best way is to spend the money and get a proper intake system that can be removed so the oem stuff can be put back on.

Only thing i removed from my vehicle that cant go back to oem is the exhaust.

^ Agreed I wouldn't cut up your airbox just yet. Even if your looking to just add a cone filter to your stock tubing adapters are fairly inexpensive.

it you guys were talkin to me I have an aftermarket intake and was able to put the bottom part on just dosent sit quite right like the tube that comes out of the bottom part of the air box dosent match up with the hole in the engine bay that leads to the front bumper

so anyone know if the top part of the air box will fit if I cut the bottom part out if I have a cone filter?
