Does anyone know the thread size the bolts need to be to pull a steering wheel. The steering wheel pullers have SAE bolts, and the last time I was pulling a wheel, it pulled the bolts out of the threads. Being that pot metal it's not that strong anyway.

The last 5 I removed were all 5/16 fine thread. When they strip out I have drilled and tapped them 7/16 fine and they always come off. Make sure you slide a piece of scrap sheet metal between steering wheel and clock spring when drilling so you don't drill through the clock spring. Tap the threads all the way through and I guarantee the wheel will come off. Thanx Bruce

You need to drill through and through and cut a new thread ((carefully!). Before removing the steering to moisten with WD-40 place of installation of the steering wheel.

Thanks, Alexsander.

I guess I got lucky with the puller kit I bought. It came with at least 4 sets of bolts and when I used it the wheel popped right off in three seconds.
