So i replaced the clockspring and still nothing. I double checked connections and everything is fine. Where is the relay for the steering wheel controls and what other things should I check?

The switches may be bad. Do the cruise control switches work??

there is no relay for the steering wheel controls...

where did you get the clock spring from?

From a ls that the timing chain broke. The steering wheel controls worked in the guys car before it broke down. And what else could it be?

I would suspect the used clockspring. It may have been damaged during removal. When replacing a wear item it is always best to use a new replacement.

^ you mean when I take a shower, I shouldn't put my dirty boxers and socks back on?
~ like trying to save an old band-aid for my next new cut?

Could it be anything else? But yeah, I get what your saying. I just got a deal on a clockspring and fuel pump so I wasn't going to pass it up.

I guess if the clockspring isn't plugged in........

So I just took apart my old clockspring. All of the wires and connections look fine. No wear in the ribbon.

I need to check mine also... steering wheel controls don't work. Well the cruise control doesn't. I have a non stock dc player and didn't get the steering control adapter yet. Horn works though. Ice and snow will be here in about an hour. Fun fun

Well if you need a clockspring, don't buy a used one! I think I just learned that the hard way! Lol
Are your ready for spring? I know I am!

Ready isn't the word for it... I'm over winter. I need to move to Florida or California. I like snow and cold on December 25th and that's it. If the clock spring is bad will the horn still work? Both the radio controls and the cruise control still light up. Just the cruise doesn't work at all. Won't even turn on.

The clockspring can fail completely or partially. If it only fails partly, then you may only lose one function. If so, eventually it will fail completely and you will lose it all.

Awesome... guess I'll be looking for a new one once it warms up a bit. Ice and snow have started coming down now.

I'm a little confused here. You say that "and the cruise control still light up," but you also say that the cruse "Won't even turn on." Those two statements can't both be true. If the cruse won't turn on, then it won't light up. What's really going on here?

The leds in the actual buttons light up but when I try to turn on the cruise it doesn't function and I never get the cruise light on the dash. I'm assuming the cruise buttons are getting power bc the leds are lit but cruise just isn't working. If that makes any more sense.

Yes, that clears it up. The button illumination is a separate circuit.

I will also add that it is possible for the early stage of failure to give the symptom of pressing one button and it doing a different job.

for example: all of the stereo buttons do exactly what they are supposed to except for one of the buttons. vol up turns the volume up, vol down turns the volume down then next track mutes the radio.

right before the trace breaks in the ribbon, the final bit of connection left can have an added amount of resistance that can throw any or all of the buttons out of range...
