2003 V8 with 130k on it. I've had it for a couple of years, no serious problems.
Now two days ago, I was about a hundred yards from home and it just shut off. Just barely coasted into my driveway - got lucky there I guess.

Now when I try to start it, it fires right up, runs for about half a second (just long enough to come back to idle RPM) and then it dies with no error/check engine/etc.
I checked for codes just in case, but there's nothing.

First thought was fuel, so I pulled the rear seat. I could hear the pump cycle for a few seconds when I turned the key, checked fuel pressure at the rail and got about 37psi, so that seems fine.

Not sure where to go with this next though - almost has to be some computer/sensor related thing, since it cranks and starts up so easily - but that could be almost anything as far as I know.

Any advice?

Disconnect the MAF sensor and see if it will then start and keep running.
If it will, look for dirt or a bug on the sensor wire.

Check out the big brain on joegr!

Just got back from doing exactly that - found another thread (via google, didn't find anything helpful through the site search) that suggested the MAF.

Pulled the plug, and it started right up.
Took it out, and found a tiny bit of a butterfly wing, right across the two wires!
Removed that, reinstalled, and it runs perfectly again!

thats what you get for killing one of gods beautiful creatures... MURDERER!!!!!

that looks like an awful big piece of debris that made it through (or around) the filter

Oh man, tough crowd eh?
We don't know that I killed it, may have only maimed it... ok, not sure that's any better...

Yeah, I was wondering about the filter too - really ought to have taken care of this. The rest of the butterfly wasn't on the filter, the filter is really clean still - maybe it's just a little piece that dropped in last time I changed the filter (last fall) and finally made some trouble?
