i have a 94 mk8 and sometimes in the morning mostly when its cold outside. I will go to start the car and nothing happens i turn the key and everything in the car goes dead if i hold the key to the start position it will eventually start and when its warmed up or warm outside i dont have this issue. Could it be the starter or something elese.

no i work at a car stereo shop and i have 2 batts in the car and have load tested the starter batt

i think it might be the solinode but i was told that u have to replace the starter as well.

No. You can buy just the solenoid. I just did mine a couple months ago. But if you get a new/rebuilt starter they come with one.

I am having starting issues too. I thought it was the program I had. I switch to stock and the car started A LOT better, but it seems the starter finally died. I am picking up another car today.

I have to cats, so I was able to replace my solenoid on the starter without much difficulty. I am not sure how hard it would be to do if you have cats.

Plus installed the solenoid is not easy anyway. There is a part that has to connect to a lever in the starter. Its not easy getting it to align right when on vehicle.

It may be worth just replacing the entire starter. 3 bolts hold it on.

The small solenoid wire connector on the starter might be loose or corroded a bit. I'd try unplugging it and cleaning it up.

Those connectors aren't very tight, it's kind of a common problem.

i will try cleaning it off and if that does not work then i guess i will just have to replace the starter.
