I have a 04 luxury V6 that does not have SST mode. I was wondering if i could have it in my car. Is it something that someone has done and if so was it extremely hard or even worth it.

I thought they all had the ability, they just didnt have the cut-out in the shifting panel thing...

Id like to try and do the conversion but im not sure how hard it is or if it can be done.
It can be done. You will lose D4, though.

My sst has D4 but I have a first gen so don't quote me on that.
It's on the shifter; the computer just won't recognize it. The computer will think you're in 3rd.

Yes. Unless you get the PCM reprogrammed with a sport calibration the PCM won't recognize D4. There is no USA sport V6 calibration. IIRC, there is a Canadian calibration; good luck getting it installed.
Here's why; the PCM reads the shifter linearly;

So you see when the non-SST PCM sees the SST D4 position it thinks the shifter is in 3rd. You will have full SST functionality, just no D4.

thx for the input guys i might do it today was my birthday and i had got some birthday money. I hear how everyone loves using there sst and thought it would be a good project.

Its been awhile but im pretty sure quik ls said that it was one of his top 3 things he enjoyed about his car. It made it alot more fun and he's done quite a bit to his car. Was awhile back but im sure theres others that love the SST mode.

I was mostly being a smartass, but it was also a commentary on the less-than-stellar performance of SST & our tranny's.

I'd say it's probably a little worse since you'll shift more. And it's a little tricky to get the hang of and even when you get the hang of it but it's still can be inconsistent and this makes it a tad annoying. But there's always D4 for those times.
I'd go for it. It is fun to do.

I was the first one who tried this mod with the 2nd Gen V6. It has been over 3 years and I am very happy it. The V6 should have had this feature from the beginning, I still don't understand why Lincoln did not offer this, oh well. I found my SST on ebay for a ridiculous price, so the deals are out there. It does not matter that it is from a V8 model, it will work, But it must be from a 03-06 LS.
