is the shiz-nit-o-bang. Shifts in D4/D5 are really nice now too.

I love the xcal!

When did you get it? I thought you have had it for a while for some reason.
 
I've had it for a couple weeks is all. I had been on the fence about dropping 400 for it, so I was looking for a used one. The 2 or 3 previous times I tried to buy used, someone else ended up buying it out from under me. I got a fair price from Sully for mine just 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I haven't done any refining to the tune yet, simply because I don't know what I should fine tune further. I just sent ILLS my strategy code, and he sent me a tunefile.
 
I am so jealous. I'm just trying to scrape the coin together to get the windows tinted.
 
That's a toss up for me. I got the windows tinted almost as soon as I bought the car. But it was kind of a waste. And it was expensive up here in Northern MN. I paid 275.00 :eek:

And I kept it legal at 50% on the sides, and went a little illegal on the back at 35%. It does make a big difference on a sunny day though.
 
Here in MO it's 35% front to windows and as dark as you want on the rest. I'm about to do 35% on my fronts with 15% all the other windows it's $180 to do it at tint smith here in KC..
 
Man, I know I always say I dont get into performance as far as the LS is concerned but I often wish I could afford a XCal myself.

Pete, do you think if you dont plan on getting into any kind of racing the Xcal is worth it? Like is there a way that it could in the end pay for itself with use?

I know it has what like 3 storage slots for 3 different tunes but would and economy setting save as far as gas?

tuning is not for economy or power.... the thing you get from tuning is efficiency and that gives both power and economy! The fuel economy would pay for it self pretty quickly if you can avoid getting into the throttle with the new power

Sully, not everyone reads every topic if they feel its not within interest.:D

So, you arent really talking to yourself just the selection of people interested in the topic;) :D


I understand what the tune does but for the price will it honestly ever pay for itself if someone looking into it is not going to the strip or road coarse? Not that I want it to save gas money, I could see myself having some fun with it around these roads where I moved to.


You say so-so that answers my question:)
 
let me put it this way. since removing the tune to sell pete my xcal, i have parked my car and not moved it except in and out of the garage for working on. I probably wont drive it untill the new programmer is in
 
I haven't taken it on a highway trip yet, but I have not rally noticed a change in mileage. But as you can tell from my original post, I like the 1st gear launch, so I'm not keeping my foot out of it yet.

I find it's worth it to fix the crappy transmission - I mean think of one transmission repair ($$$$).

Sully's - of course - right on about getting both economy and power. Rob (or any custom tuner) changes parameters to make the vehicle run more efficiently. This results in more power, and since it's more efficient, better economy.

I haven't messed around with the end-user options yet. In fact, I don't een know what's there to adjust, as I just skipped over it when I loaded the tune.

JWerner, is it worth it? Absolutely. It changes the transmission into a whole different animal. I was hoping for better SST response, but unfortunately this cannot be changed.

I may decide to play around with those custom options that I can change, but I would need some advice first.

ive found that higher shift pressure in SST makes for better response. the best way to fix it though is drive it often enough to know how its going to react and shift ahead of time
 
That's what I do now (well, what I did on stock tune). It seems if I'm at WOT, I have to hit the shift at 500 RPM's less than where I want it to shift at. So, if I want it to shift at 6000, I hit the shifter at 5500.
 
I dont really find a problem with the response in SST myself. I guess I kind of just grew into it.

Man I do want one, I gotta rebuild our new kitchen so...

What exactly does it fix in the transmission? Is it something on the lines of the update?:confused: Or are you just talking about the respons and such?
 
the biggest gains from the tune are the transmissions use of the power and the pressure/mannerisms of the shifting

You can change the shift points and line pressure/how quickly it shifts. I can chirp the tiers with the 2-3 shift at 50-55 mph.

There is no economy tune. It all around makes things a little better. It's definitely worth it for everyday driving.
 
Pektel: I just ordered one from ILLS.... I am chompin at the bit waiting until I get mine. I just installed the Magnaflow exhaust and I have an intake on the way. I should be good to go once I get the SCT..... I need the SST start in 1st....
 
Man i think i need to get one of these how much does one of these things cost exactly? and does it cost anything for ILLS to do anything...what kind of millage increase is there roughly normal driving wise lol.....just wondering

each codes from ILLS is supposedly 50 a piece then about 400 for a brand new Xcal. Choice is yours. I'll get one from ILLS once I get in my 2003-2005 LSE grille and my stainless intake tube.
