When I turn my steering wheel the first few inches I get a whinning noise. I want to say its the power steering fluid. Any other ideas on what it may be?

Had this problem in my 04V8. Warranty repair - they filled the steering box with some thick fluid. There is a tech bulletin on this at the Lincoln stealership. The fix worked and after 20,000 miles, is still gone.

Depends on how loud it is. Fords often have a pump whine which is usually normal, unless it is real loud. Some aftermarket pumps don't whine, so don't know why Ford's do.

Sometimes a fluid replacement will fix it.

Ah!!! and I just remembered, my local Lincoln service guy just did a TSB repair on my 04 LS. There is a TSB on pump whine and squeel. This is sometimes an indication of future rack and pinion failure $$$. So you should take it in to be sure this isn't your problem. If your car is under warranty, this repair is covered. They essentially remove some of the fluid and put in some friction modifier if I recall.

Good Luck,

Had same problem with my 04. Dealer service would not listen to customer, went to general manager after two times in shop with tech saying could not hear noise, even then they took apart steering column. After the really loud squawk (me) they did the TSB and with egg on face admitted the noise went away. The GM said "You can tell the tech the information but you can' t hold a gun to there head!". I now get 5 star service at the dealer.

The noise and vibration has not come back.

hmm.. i guess its time to go back to the dealer... i go once a month

PUHLEEEZE put the year of the LS in the post!!!! :Bang

Had to dig in your photo gallery, but I found out yours is a 2002 LS, so the tech bulletin posted above won't apply. I think there is a separate TSB for the PS steering on the old 00-02 models, tho.
